PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ankle Breaker (ranked 2016 p4p, 2366 weight class) and Rufino Gracie (ranked 114 p4p, 134 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ankle Breaker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rufino Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Tiny Johnson and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
An inside leg kick lands from Gracie.
A left lands for Gracie.
Breaker seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Breaker throws a push kick but Gracie slaps the foot to one side.
A leg kick checked by Breaker.
Breaker changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Breaker on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Gracie. Gracie obviously looking to wear him down.

Gracie gets a clinch.
A short body shot lands from Gracie as the two fighters clinch.
Gracie lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Breaker backwards.

Breaker is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gracie is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Breaker to the mat. Breaker regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Gracie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Breaker has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gracie has managed to get both his arms back between Breaker's legs - danger averted.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gracie engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie postures up and lands a big shot to Breaker's brow.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Breaker is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Gracie has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Breaker is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Gracie is aware though and is defending well.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gracie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Gracie lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Breaker is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Breaker is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Breaker has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gracie can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Breaker is keeping the position for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Breaker gets caught flat footed, as Gracie shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Gracie distracts Breaker with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Breaker keeps moving.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Gracie working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.
Gracie is stalling in the full guard.

Gracie avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Breaker wants to sweep but no luck.
Gracie controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Gracie working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Breaker's head.
Breaker trying to keep a closed guard but Gracie is proving a slippery customer.
Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gracie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rufino Gracie dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Breaker on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Gracie connects with a good right hand that stumbles Breaker. Breaker circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Breaker avoids a kick to the body.
Breaker on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Gracie scores with a nice strike.

Breaker gets tackled into the cage by Gracie. Gracie maintains the clinch.

Gracie gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Breaker regains guard.

Breaker working for a triangle but Gracie defends it easily.

Breaker working for submissions but it's allowed Gracie to get to half guard.

Gracie is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Breaker is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Gracie scores with a couple of nice shots.
Breaker is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Breaker is looking to control Gracie's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Breaker avoid being mounted?
Breaker is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Gracie is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Gracie seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Breaker does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Breaker is looking for a sweep. Gracie is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gracie wants to control but Breaker is keeping him busy.
Breaker wants to get back to full guard.
Gracie lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Gracie is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Breaker actively working from the bottom here.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Gracie has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Gracie looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Breaker with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Breaker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.
Gracie lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Gracie is trying to control. Breaker wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Breaker throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Breaker throws his legs up looking for a submission but Gracie uses it to pass to side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Breaker tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Gracie wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Rufino Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Sloppy strikes from Breaker. Those never looked like landing.
Breaker chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Gracie can pounce on him.
Gracie lands a nice shot that snaps Breaker's head back.
Gracie lands a glancing blow to the side of Breaker's head.

Gracie closes the distance and clinches.
Gracie lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Come on Gracie - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Gracie lands a body punch.

Gracie has clasped his hands together around Breaker's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Gracie is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gracie lands a nice short elbow.
Gracie is taking a breather. Breaker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Gracie is working for a kimura but Breaker is defending it quite comfortably.
Gracie takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Nice strikes from Gracie there.
Breaker tries to get to full guard but Gracie has control of the leg.
Breaker is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Gracie jumps into side control!
Breaker is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Gracie is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
Gracie manages to capitalize on a mistake by Breaker to take his back!
Breaker is trying to remain composed but Gracie is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

Gracie sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Breaker taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:19 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Rufino Gracie!
