PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Goofy Dog (ranked 4145 p4p, 24457 weight class) and Gakus Amiga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gakus Amiga has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Goofy Dog!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 16 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gakus Amiga!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Shigeki Sano and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Amiga steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Dog.
Amiga is trying to counter with his kicks.
Amiga blocks a head kick by Dog.
A head kick misses from Dog.
Amiga steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Amiga gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dog to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Dog trying to stand up but can't free himself from Amiga's guard.

Dog decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Amiga, up you get!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dog misses with an uppercut.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dog is defended easily by Amiga.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amiga goes for a double leg but Dog avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dog continues to drive forward.
Dog will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Dog shoots in for a takedown but Amiga shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Amiga thinks about the counter body kick.
No luck for Dog with that takedown attempt.
Amiga lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Goofy Dog. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dog fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Amiga dives in and grabs Dog's left leg, looking for a takedown. Dog pushes down on Amiga's head and hops out.
Dog is looking to clinch.

Amiga tries to keep at a distance but Dog has taken the fight into the clinch.

Dog has Amiga pushed against the cage.
Dog seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Dog effectively controlling the action here.
Amiga dodges an elbow strike from Dog.

Dog escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Dog gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Dog dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Dog breaks from the clinch.
Dog looks to land a combination but Amiga avoids it well.
Amiga shapes to counter with a head kick.
Dog looks to clinch
and Amiga counters with a low kick, right behind Dog 's knee.
Dog swings widly with a right hand
and Amiga counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Dog goes for a double leg but Amiga avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Amiga continues to drive forward.
Dog is breathing heavily.
Amiga tries to circle away but Dog has him pinned against the cage.
Amiga dodges an elbow strike from Dog.

Dog escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Amiga takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Amiga manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Dog on his heels. He'll look to pass Dog's guard now, I'm sure.
Amiga looking to sit in guard and control but Dog gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dog would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Dog wants to stand and escape but instead Amiga has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Dog keeping moving, preventing Amiga from controlling successfully.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Goofy Dog dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Dog tries to bum rush Amiga with a series of wild strikes but Amiga uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Sloppy strikes from Dog. Those never looked like landing.
Dog misses with the combination.
Amiga replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Dog blocks it well.

Dog gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Dog manages to break the clinch.
Goofy Dog is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dog swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Amiga counters with a nice kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dog throws a right hand that Amiga ducks under and follows up with a left that Amiga also avoids with ease.

Dog keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Dog pushes Amiga up against the cage in a clinch.

Amiga is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Dog pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Dog is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Amiga can do to turn this around?
Dog tries a knee to the head but Amiga blocks it.
Dog throws a punch but it's blocked by Amiga.

Dog pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Goofy Dog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dog lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Amiga circles away quickly and effectively.
And Amiga responds with a good body kick, but Dog manages to step out the way in time.
Amiga shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Dog sprawls well. Dog wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Amiga gets slowly back to his feet.
Goofy Dog has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gakus Amiga.

and Amiga counters with a shoot takedown. Dog fights it but they end up in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Amiga prevents Dog from getting back to his feet.
Amiga trying to control the position from guard on top but Dog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Amiga stops Dog from standing up.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Dog keeping moving, preventing Amiga from controlling successfully.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dog wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Amiga manages to pass to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Amiga takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Amiga gets a takedown into half guard.
Dog is trying to stand.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Goofy Dog dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Dog pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Amiga back to the cage. Dog follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Dog defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Amiga.
Dog swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Amiga counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dog won't be happy with that.

Dog throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A swing and a miss from Dog.
Dog throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Dog throws a lazy head kick

and Amiga counters with a shoot takedown. Dog fights it but they end up in guard.
Dog is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Amiga dives into side control.
Dog pushes Amiga away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Amiga gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Amiga is looking to take a break and control but Dog is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dog wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Amiga staying out of range there.
Amiga follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Dog shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Amiga pinned against the cage. Amiga gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And Amiga responds with a good body kick, but Dog manages to step out the way in time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Dog pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Dog misses with a takedown attempt
and Amiga counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Dog throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Amiga counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Amiga shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Dog defends it nicely.
Horrible takedown attempt by Amiga or perhaps it was just good defense by Dog, which made it look bad.
Goofy Dog has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gakus Amiga.
Dog closes the distance but Amiga moves to the side
and Amiga counters with a left and a right that stings Dog.
Amiga dodges the punch combination from Dog.
Amiga fails with a takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dog tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Amiga replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Dog blocks it well.
Goofy Dog is winning the standup battle so far.
Dog misses with a jab, cross combination.
Amiga throws a fast counter high kick but Dog manages to duck under it in time.

Dog has closed the distance and engaged Amiga in a clinch.

Dog pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dog shoots for a takedown but Amiga saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Gakus Amiga has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Amiga shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dog's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Amiga chips away with some ground and pound.
Goofy Dog is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Amiga postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Goofy Dog.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Dog, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
