PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Greg Tozan (ranked 24174 p4p, 24755 weight class) and Freddy Renard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Renard comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Cyclone kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Freddy Renard acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Greg Tozan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Freddy Renard! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Percy O'Donnell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Renard changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tozan tries to avoid it but Renard manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tozan to the ground. Tozan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Tozan throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Tozan slaps away a takedown attempt from Renard, before circling back to the center of the mat. Tozan feinted with a counter takedown. Renard dives in and scores a takedown into Tozan's guard. Renard is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Tozan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Renard stays in close to Tozan's body and controls the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tozan throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tozan is looking to stand back up but Renard counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Tozan. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Well, if Renard is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Renard works his way into full mount! Renard scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Tozan?
Tozan is looking to get to half guard. Tozan is squirming around, avoiding Renard's attempts to control the action.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tozan regains half guard. Renard is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Tozan has managed to free his arm - good work. Renard not doing much here.
Renard wants to pass to mount but Tozan is defending the position. Tozan is trying to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Renard wants to take a breather but Tozan is having none of it. Renard sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Tozan defending well though. Tozan tries to roll over but Renard keeps him under control. Tozan tries to kick Renard off but Renard keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Renard has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Renard looking to control but Tozan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Tozan really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Renard trying to control but Tozan is having none of it. Tozan keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Tozan wants to control but Renard is having none of it. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Renard can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Tozan is looking to escape. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Freddy Renard dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Renard shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Renard tries for a takedown but Tozan circles away easily and Tozan counters by moving into the clinch. Tozan breaks from the clinch.
Tozan keeps the fight on the outside. A quick step to the side and Tozan tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Renard closes the distance looking to clinch and Tozan counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Renard moves into full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Renard has momentary wrist control but Tozan slips an elbow through the middle. Renard is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's one minute gone in the round. Tozan passes into half guard. Renard gets full guard. Renard looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Tozan is defending well. Renard quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Tozan has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Renard celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
