PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Voss (ranked 24711 p4p, 4092 weight class) and Matt Molane (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Scott Voss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matt Molane!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Molane tries to score a power double leg takedown but Voss sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Molane somewhat.
Voss looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Molane tries a head kick but it misses.
Molane goes for a double leg but Voss avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Voss continues to drive forward.
Voss shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Molane as he avoids it easily.
Molane looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Voss is fending him off so far but Molane persists. Nope, Voss circles away and we're back to standing.
Scott Voss has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matt Molane.
Molane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Voss pinned against the cage. Voss gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Voss changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Voss shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Molane as he avoids it easily.
Molane throws a fast counter high kick but Voss manages to duck under it in time.

Molane shoots in for a takedown but Voss shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Molane.
Molane shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Voss sprawls well. Voss wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Molane gets slowly back to his feet.

Molane gets a clinch.
Voss takes a knee right on the jaw!

Molane pulls guard successfully.

Molane had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Voss defends it easily.

Voss drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Voss jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Molane has his hands on Voss's head, controlling the position.
Molane is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Molane pulls Voss in close to his closed guard and prevents Voss from doing any damage or advancing position.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Let's hope that Molane has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Molane shoots in for a takedown but Voss shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Voss tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Molane manages to circle out of the way.
Voss shoots in but Molane avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Molane tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Voss swivels and escapes.
Molane goes for a double leg but Voss avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Voss continues to drive forward.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Molane plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Molane throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Molane misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Voss shoots for a double leg takedown but Molane sprawls well. He's pushed Voss's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Molane pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Horrible takedown attempt by Voss or perhaps it was just good defense by Molane, which made it look bad.
Molane shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Voss but Voss pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Molane has closed the distance and engaged Voss in a clinch.
Molane tries to throw a body punch but Voss avoids it by throwing Molane back against the cage.
Molane drops down looking for an ankle pick but Voss pulls his leg out and moves away.
Molane pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Molane fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Voss, pushing him back against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Molane's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Voss slaps away a takedown attempt from Molane, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Voss darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Molane doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Voss could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Voss prevents Molane from getting back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Molane gets a clinch.
Voss gets underhooks to prevent Molane's takedown attempt.

Molane manages to break the clinch.
Molane shoots in looking for a takedown. Voss tries to sprawl out of it but Molane keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Voss manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Voss shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Molane manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Molane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Voss's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Molane dives in and grabs Voss's left leg, looking for a takedown. Voss pushes down on Molane's head and hops out.

Molane comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Molane escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Voss avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Voss throws a quick counter head kick but Molane was just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Voss leaves Molane with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Molane sneaks out the side door and pushes Voss away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Voss tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Molane manages to circle out of the way.
Voss shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Molane but Molane pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Molane shoots in looking for a takedown but Voss manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Molane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A jab lands there for Molane.
Molane pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Voss shoots in but Molane avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Molane keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Voss slaps away a takedown attempt from Molane, before circling back to the center of the mat.
It looked like Voss was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Voss walks into a straight right hand from Molane.
Molane shoots in for a double leg but Voss sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Molane.

And that's the end of the fight!
Matt Molane comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Molane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
