PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24371 p4p, 24204 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Sapi enables Kiang to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Sapi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Kiang avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sapi seems keen to control Kiang's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Sapi controls Kiang momentarily but Kiang frees himself.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Kiang slaps away a takedown attempt from Sapi, before circling back to the center of the mat.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kiang looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sapi counters with a body kick.

Sapi looks for a takedown but Kiang sprawls well.

and Sapi makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Kiang really felt that one!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yawa Kiang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kiang or perhaps it was just good defense by Sapi, which made it look bad.
Sapi steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

and Sapi counters with a body kick that stops Kiang in his tracks momentarily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Sapi slaps away a takedown attempt from Kiang, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Wala Sapi dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kiang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Sapi thinks about the counter body kick.
Sapi is trying hard to land a takedown here. Kiang sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Kiang is looking to counter with a body kick.

Sapi shoots in and bounces Kiang off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Sapi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Kiang pulls Sapi in to control the position.
Sapi is looking to stand up but Kiang won't let him.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sapi controls the pace.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sapi fails with the takedown
and Kiang makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sapi.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wala Sapi.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kiang looking to score a takedown here. Sapi is defending well but Kiang drives through and ends up in Sapi's guard.
Kiang trying to control but Sapi is working from the bottom.
Sapi has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Kiang wants to control from the top but Sapi keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sapi avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Yawa Kiang will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown. Sapi tries to sprawl out of it but Kiang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sapi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kiang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Kiang tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Sapi paws at him with a jab and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sapi shoots in but no luck this time.
Kiang attempts a counter takedown but Sapi avoids it well and moves away.
Kiang tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Sapi defends well and Kiang ends up having to push Sapi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Sapi follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Yawa Kiang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sapi is looking for a takedown.
Sapi has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Kiang after a bit of a struggle.
Sapi goes for a takedown attempt but Kiang pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kiang gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kiang gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Sapi.

Kiang works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Sapi is controlling Kiang's posture.
Kiang sitting in guard here, content to control.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kiang sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Kiang's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Yawa Kiang showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kiang has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
