Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elvin Ruez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Maples (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruez comes to the cage accompanied by Face Breaker - Poison Pen. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruez keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Nice takedown defense from Ruez. No joy for Maples on that attempt.
Ruez misses with a takedown attempt - Maples sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Ruez throws a good cross that connects.
Ruez throws the left hand but Maples avoids the punch easily.
Ruez feints and as Maples raises his hands in defense, Ruez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Ruez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Maples can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ruez gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Maples counters with a good, hard body kick but Ruez shrugs it off.
Ruez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
