PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Caleb DeCoteau (ranked 2706 p4p, 21908 weight class) and Jingky Bacolod (ranked 83 p4p, 225 weight class). Bacolod has chosen Havana as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Caleb DeCoteau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jingky Bacolod!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Bacolod tightens his grip and picks DeCoteau up, before dumping him to the ground. DeCoteau manages to land in guard.
Bacolod wants to control from the top but DeCoteau keeps moving.

DeCoteau throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bacolod uses it to pass to side control.
Bacolod throws an elbow but DeCoteau slips to the side and avoids it well.
Bacolod tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

DeCoteau is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Bacolod tries to move to mount but DeCoteau blocks the move with his legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Bacolod wants to control but DeCoteau is keeping him busy.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Bacolod in particular looking to stall.
DeCoteau has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bacolod is working away from the top position though.
Bacolod perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Bacolod wants to free his trapped foot but DeCoteau is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Bacolod is looking for a kimura but DeCoteau is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Bacolod to get the leverage.
DeCoteau is staying active underneath Bacolod, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Bacolod throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Bacolod passes DeCoteau's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
DeCoteau is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
DeCoteau trying to control but Bacolod postures up.
DeCoteau is trying is best to control the position here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Bacolod tries to pass the half guard into mount. DeCoteau knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

DeCoteau has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bacolod is working away from the top position though.
Bacolod is taking a breather. DeCoteau says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Bacolod's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Bacolod closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. DeCoteau quickly recovers to half guard.

Bacolod must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

DeCoteau has his foot on Bacolod's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bacolod works his way back into a safe position though.

DeCoteau had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Bacolod defends it easily.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Bacolod got a little sloppy there for a moment and DeCoteau has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Bacolod has managed to get both his arms back between DeCoteau's legs - danger averted.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


DeCoteau closes the distance and clinches.
DeCoteau tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Bacolod pulls guard effortlessly.
DeCoteau throws a strike but Bacolod rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

DeCoteau wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Bacolod is now in half guard.

Bacolod prevents DeCoteau from improving his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bacolod has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Bacolod looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

DeCoteau might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

DeCoteau has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bacolod can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bacolod is working for a kimura here but DeCoteau manages to reverse the position and he's now in Bacolod's guard.

Bacolod isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. DeCoteau stacks Bacolod on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by DeCoteau!

DeCoteau has control of an arm but Bacolod manages to advance to DeCoteau's back!

Bacolod goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. DeCoteau escapes and is now in half guard on top.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jingky Bacolod will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Bacolod takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
DeCoteau throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bacolod with the counter takedown but DeCoteau avoids it easily.
DeCoteau throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
DeCoteau throws a jab when Bacolod was well out of range.

DeCoteau gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Bacolod stands up and waves to DeCoteau to follow him.

Bacolod gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows DeCoteau to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Bacolod has his foot on DeCoteau's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. DeCoteau works his way back into a safe position though.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as DeCoteau accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bacolod is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst DeCoteau is controlling him.
Bacolod has his hands on DeCoteau's head, controlling the position.
Caleb DeCoteau has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
DeCoteau is looking to clinch but Bacolod is avoiding it.
Bacolod moves out of range as DeCoteau strikes.
Bacolod uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by DeCoteau.
Jingky Bacolod is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
DeCoteau lands an overhand right.
Bacolod stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Bacolod wants it to stay on the feet.
DeCoteau throws a series of punches but Bacolod avoids them all with ease.
DeCoteau moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromBacolod.
DeCoteau misses with a low kick.

DeCoteau throws the left hand but Bacolod avoids the punch easily.
DeCoteau looks to land a right hand but Bacolod moved out of range.
Bacolod tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but DeCoteau paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Bacolod gets the takedown into side control.
DeCoteau is trying to control Bacolod's posture but Bacolod avoids it.

Bacolod decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Bacolod.

DeCoteau bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bacolod moves in looking to clinch but DeCoteau pushes him off.

Bacolod clinches up against the cage.
DeCoteau tries to score a body lock takedown but Bacolod shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

DeCoteau postures up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bacolod is on top in guard.


DeCoteau has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Bacolod can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

DeCoteau has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Bacolod is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for DeCoteau.
Jingky Bacolod is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
DeCoteau is being controlled here.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Caleb DeCoteau.
I think Bacolod has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
