PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bunny Anstey (ranked 2158 p4p, 2521 weight class) and Lee Comblin (ranked 267 p4p, 296 weight class). Lee Comblin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Bunny Anstey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lee Comblin!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Gregory Folan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anstey tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Comblin swivels and escapes.
Comblin delivers a nice body kick.
Comblin throws a poor cross that misses

and Anstey counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Anstey.

Comblin has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Anstey is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
Comblin wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Anstey has him pressed against the cage.

Anstey breaks from the clinch.
Comblin falls off balance throwing a combination

and Anstey counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Comblin wants to stand but Anstey is controlling the position.
Anstey sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Comblin's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Anstey is controlling the pace.
Anstey thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Comblin's head.
Well, if Anstey is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Comblin throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Lee Comblin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Anstey blocks a jab.
Anstey tries to counter with a takedown but Comblin is quick to defend against it.
Anstey takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Anstey avoids the head kick by Comblin.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bunny Anstey will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Anstey counters with a single leg into guard. Comblin didn't expect that.
Comblin can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Anstey controls the pace.
Anstey seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Comblin for as long as he can get away with.
Anstey tries to free his leg and advance position but Comblin is retaining full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Comblin manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Anstey is looking to take a break and control but Comblin is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Comblin explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Anstey shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Anstey was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Comblin is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Anstey is controlling him well.

Comblin is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Anstey has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Comblin gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Anstey cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

It looks like Lee Comblin has been cut.
Comblin bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Anstey's head backwards.
Anstey seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
Lee Comblin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Comblin connects with a solid leg kick.
Comblin throws a left and a right that both miss

and Anstey counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Comblin!
Anstey looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Comblin is avoiding damage well.
Anstey has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Comblin!

Bunny Anstey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

That was a close second round but I would say that Bunny Anstey will probably get the nod.

That's time! Anstey's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Comblin uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Anstey has time to react.
Comblin throws a big shot that misses.
Comblin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The fighters circling - Comblin throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Anstey drops down looking for a counter takedown but Comblin sprawls and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A little jabbing left from Comblin on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

and Anstey counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Anstey controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Anstey trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Anstey throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Anstey's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Comblin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Anstey defends well and Comblin ends up having to push Anstey into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Anstey will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Anstey connects with a looping right hand.

and Anstey counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Comblin makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Comblin gets caught napping as Anstey dives in and scores a takedown. Comblin manages to retain guard.
Comblin wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Anstey manages to pass to side control.

Anstey is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Anstey perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Comblin has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Anstey is on him like a limpet, forcing Comblin back against the cage.

Anstey has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Comblin regains guard immediately.
Anstey engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Anstey stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Comblin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lee Comblin has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bunny Anstey is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Anstey stays in close to Comblin's body and controls the position.
Anstey postures up in Comblin's guard and throws a big left but Comblin blocks it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bunny Anstey.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Anstey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
