Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sonny Day (ranked 799 p4p, 1118 weight class) and Tetsuo Shima (ranked 115 p4p, 162 weight class). Shima has chosen The HU - Yuve Yuve Yu as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sonny Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tetsuo Shima!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Tiny Johnson and Gwen Towbar.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Day tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Shima is able to avoid easily.
Day takes a swing at Shima's ribcage but misses.
Day lands with an overhand left.
Shima moves forwards but Day connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Day looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Day gets tackled into the cage by Shima. Shima maintains the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Day's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Shima lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Shima breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Day tries to keep at a distance but Shima has taken the fight into the clinch.
Shima slowing the pace effectively.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Day wants to break free but Shima has control.
Shima taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Day being controlled against the cage.
Shima will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Day up against the cage.
Shima receives a warning from the referee for stalling.

Shima manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Tetsuo Shima.

Shima closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Day tries to pull guard but Shima holds him up against the cage and eventually Day drops back down to his feet.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Shima takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Day ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Day no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Shima seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Day wants to stand but Shima is controlling the position.

Shima's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Shima tries to free his leg and advance position but Day is retaining full guard.
Day trying to keep a closed guard but Shima is proving a slippery customer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

Day throws a series of punches but Shima avoids them all with ease.
Day scores with a nice right hand.
Shima's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Day connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Shima scrambles back to his feet.
Day scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Day looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Day misses with the combination.
Day throws a nice looking combination but Shima bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Shima drives through and clinches with Day against the cage.

Day breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shima takes a swing at Day's ribcage but misses.
Day shoots for a double leg takedown but Shima sprawls well. He's pushed Day's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shima takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Shima throws a shot from downtown. Day moves away and avoids it.
Nice straight punches there by Shima. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Shima.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Day throws a right hand that misses
and Day takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Day misses with a looping left.
Shima works Day's body with a nice hook.
Shima throws the left hand but Day avoids the punch easily.
Shima on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Shima will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Shima pushes Day up against the cage in a clinch.
Shima content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Shima stalling the fight.
Day is looking to break free of the clinch but Shima has double underhooks.
Shima is pushing Day up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Shima lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Tetsuo Shima dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Day misses with an uppercut
and Day takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Shima avoids the body shot from Day.
Shima slaps away a takedown attempt from Day, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Day is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Shima thows a left - swing and a miss!
Day thows a leg kick but Shima checks it
and Shima counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Day ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Day cracks Shima with an open hand slap.
Shima throws a right hand that Day ducks under and follows up with a left that Day also avoids with ease.
Shima has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Shima throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Day tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Shima was well out of range. Poor timing from Day.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shima moves away from the strike by Day.
Day looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Shima is fending him off so far but Day persists. Nope, Shima circles away and we're back to standing.
Shima comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Day feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Shimas jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Shima displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Day throws out the jab.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Shima! But no joy.

Day throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Day takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Sonny Day is winning the standup battle so far.
Day ducks under a wild hook from Shima.
Day rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shima moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Day throws a leg kick that is checked
and Shima counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Day is rocked!
Day backs away from a small jab... but Shima lunges forward with a huge superman punch! Day crumples to the ground as his mouth piece is sent flying! Shima with a spectacular finish!
