This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 4 losses; Brad Hartwell! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 9 losses; Wang Dong!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Gwen Towbar.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Dong dives in and grabs Hartwell's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hartwell pushes down on Dong's head and hops out.

Hartwell drives through and clinches with Dong against the cage.
Hartwell has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Dong after a bit of a struggle.
Hartwell drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hartwell tries to pull guard but Dong holds him up against the cage and eventually Hartwell drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brad Hartwell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Dong is fighting off a takedown attempt but Hartwell is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Dong to the mat. Dong regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Hartwell wants to pass the guard but Dong is keeping the position.

Dong is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Hartwell is surviving well by controlling Dong's body position as best he can.

Dong sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Dong wants to control the pace but Hartwell is squirming around nicely.
Hartwell working to try and regain half guard.
Hartwell sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Dong wants to control but Hartwell is keeping him busy.

Hartwell is looking for a sweep. Dong is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Hartwell trying to hold on to Dong's head to control him but Dong postures up.
Hartwell is refusing to be controlled, as Dong sits in half guard.

Hartwell slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Dong is pushing down on Hartwell's leg trying to pass to half guard. Hartwell is fighting to maintain full guard but Dong has managed to sneak the leg through.

Hartwell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hartwell looking for submissions off his back.
Dong trying to control from half guard but Hartwell is working away.

Dong keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Hartwell has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dong is working away from the top position though.
Dong tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hartwell knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Hartwell wants to improve his position but Dong is controlling well.

Dong passes into side control, despite Hartwell's attempt to control the position.

Dong is working to tighten his grip on Hartwell's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Hartwell has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Dong is really squeezing tight and eventually Hartwell passes out! Dong breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 8:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Wang Dong!
