PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Charles Lee (ranked 5354 p4p, 5659 weight class) and Harun Aydin (ranked 465 p4p, 474 weight class). Aydin has chosen Mockingbird - Eminem as his entrance music. Harun Aydin is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charles Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Harun Aydin!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee misses with a takedown attempt
and Aydin counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Aydin scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Lee doesn't seem bothered though.

Lee closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on Aydin's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Lee breaks from the clinch.
Good work by Aydin as he checks the leg kick.
Lee shoots in but no luck this time.
Aydin moves into range and connects with a jab.
Lee steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Aydin.
Aydin scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

It looks like Charles Lee has been cut.
Aydin misses with an uppercut. Lee saw that one coming.
Lee avoids the body shot from Aydin.
Aydin throws a big shot that misses.
Lee darts in looking for a takedown but Aydin gets double underhooks and turns Lee into the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charles Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lee is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Lee drags the fight down to the ground.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Aydin wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Aydin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lee is keeping the position for now.
Lee seems keen to control Aydin's posture.
Aydin tries to free his leg and advance position but Lee is retaining full guard.
Lee has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Lee controls Aydin momentarily but Aydin frees himself.
Aydin trying to control the position from guard on top but Lee is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Lee fails to land the takedown.
Lee slips a straight right by Aydin.
Aydin swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A big right from Aydin misses.
Aydin throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Lee fails with a takedown attempt.
Lee moves out of range of the strikes.
Lee went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Lee shoots in looking for a takedown. Aydin tries to sprawl out of it but Lee keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Aydin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Aydin has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Lee is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Lee has his takedown stuffed
and Aydin counters with a straight right hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Aydin throws a body shot but no joy.
Lee tries a head kick but it misses.
A slow jab from Aydin misses its intended target.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lee.
Lee shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Aydin as he jumps to the side.
Lee misses with a series of wild punches.
Harun Aydin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Aydin throws a hook but Lee blocks it.
Lee changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Lee has his takedown stuffed
and Aydin counters with a stiff right hand.
Aydin cracks Lee with an open hand slap.
Aydin missing with a left hand there. Lee was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Aydin tries to sprawl but Lee drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Aydin is trying to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Aydin is looking to control Lee's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Aydin avoid being mounted?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Aydin is pressing down on Lee's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Aydin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lee doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lee manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Aydin working a defensive guard but Lee manages to pass into side control anyway.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Harun Aydin dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Charles Lee's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Aydin throws out a powerful jab.
Aydin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Lee slips a jab from Aydin.
Aydin fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Lee tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Aydin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Aydin throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Lee counters with a slapping leg kick.
Charles Lee is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Aydin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Lee has Aydin up against the cage in a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Aydin tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lee just stands there and leans against the cage.

Lee breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lee on the wrong end of a nice hook.

Lee looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Aydin looks to throw the jab but Lee is out of range.
Aydin misses with a straight left.
Aydin stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charles Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Aydin counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Harun Aydin seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Lee avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Aydin misses with a straight left.
Lee will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Aydin wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Aydin swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Lee takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Aydin thows a left - swing and a miss!

Lee fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Aydin to the ground. Lee is now in Aydin's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Lee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Aydin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lee controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Lee got a little sloppy there for a moment and Aydin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lee has managed to get both his arms back between Aydin's legs - danger averted.

Aydin has his foot on Lee's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lee works his way back into a safe position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Aydin working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Lee has passed into half guard!
Lee is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Lee is thwarting Aydin's attempts to control the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Harun Aydin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Aydin throws an overhand right that lands on Lee's shoulder, as Lee tries to avoid the shot.
Lee misses the shot to the body.
Aydin waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Lee.
Lee wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Nice defenses there by Lee.
Lee on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.

Lee is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Aydin's half guard.
Lee is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Aydin!
Aydin regains half guard.
Aydin wants to control but Lee is keeping busy.
Lee controlling the pace.
Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Aydin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Aydin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Aydin.
Lee not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lee accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Lee stands and throws Aydin's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Aydin is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Lee wants to control but Aydin is keeping him busy.
Aydin tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Lee presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Aydin is looking to improve his position but Lee isn't that keen on the idea.
Lee unloads with some shots from mount but Aydin bucks and avoids them well.

Lee content just to control the position here.
Aydin is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Lee looking to ground and pound but Aydin is blocking nicely.
Lee can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Aydin is looking to escape.
Aydin is trying to escape the mount.

Aydin keeps trying to improve his position.
Lee sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Lee is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Aydin is surviving well by controlling Lee's body position as best he can.
Aydin is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Poor strikes thrown by Lee there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Charles Lee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Aydin is desperately trying to improve his position but Lee has a good base and remains in mount.

Aydin slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Lee throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Aydin is looking for a sweep. Lee is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Aydin is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lee's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lee's back!
Aydin keeps control of the position as Lee tries to break free.

Aydin is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Lee knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Lee for a finish.

Aydin is looking for the choke from the back position but Lee is controlling his hands well.
Charles Lee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Harun Aydin is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Lee looking very determined here, making life difficult for Aydin.

And that's the end of the fight!
Charles Lee showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Aydin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
