This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 1 wins and 2 losses; John Lake! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 0 losses; Aniruddha Anand! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Anand has Lake up against the cage in a clinch.
Anand stops a takedown attempt from Lake.

Anand tries to score a body lock takedown but Lake shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Anand pulls guard. Lake stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Anand swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lake is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lake looking to pass the guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Anand working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lake doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lake really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Anand pulls Lake in to control the position. That's two minutes gone in the round. Lake controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Anand is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Anand can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Lake controls the pace. Lake knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Anand on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Anand tries to land a sweep but no joy. Anand not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Anand says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Lake seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Anand does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Anand wants to control but Lake is keeping busy.

Lake will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Anand looking for subs off his back but Lake has passed one foot through into half guard.

Anand is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lake's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lake's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Lake (3) vs (4) Anand
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Lake tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Anand prevents Lake from getting the reversal. Lake on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Lake tries to get out of the position. Anand looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Lake is trying desperately to improve position. Lake is squirming around, avoiding Anand's attempts to control the action. Anand might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Lake haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
