And in the blue corner, fighting out of Sydney, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Kody Dangerfield! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.
Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Dangerfield throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lawson was covering up waiting for the punch and Dangerfield finishes the takedown easily into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Lawson (0) vs (2) Dangerfield Dangerfield stands and throws Lawson's legs to the side, diving into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Lawson (0) vs (5) Dangerfield Lawson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Dangerfield wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Dangerfield gets to mount! Lawson was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Score +2 for reaching mount: Lawson (0) vs (7) Dangerfield Dangerfield looking to control and managing it successfully. Lawson tries to lock up and control but Dangerfield gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Dangerfield controlling from mount. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dangerfield looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Dangerfield working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dangerfield is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Lawson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Lawson shrugs it off. Dangerfield avoids the attempt from Lawson to control. Dangerfield wants to finish this one by submission but Lawson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Dangerfield. Dangerfield is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Lawson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Dangerfield has hold of Lawson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Lawson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Dangerfield tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Dangerfield avoids the attempt from Lawson to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Dangerfield controlling the position easily from mount. Dangerfield looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Dangerfield tries to control but Lawson wriggling away. Dangerfield controlling from mount. Dangerfield wants to control the pace but Lawson is squirming around nicely. Lawson defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Dangerfield. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dangerfield looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lawson has left one of his arms exposed and Dangerfield doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Lawson screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
