This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 10 wins and 5 losses; Long Wang!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Jello tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wang sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jello somewhat.
Jello fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wang to the ground. Jello is now in Wang's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Jello (2) vs (0) Wang
Jello is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Jello has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Jello is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Wang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jello controls the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wang looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jello is one step ahead there.
Jello stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wang swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Our spies down at at Iron Sharpens Iron inform us that Wang has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Wang wants to sweep here but Jello controlling him for the moment.
Wang is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Wang can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jello controls the pace.

Wang wants to control the position but Jello says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Jello is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Wang's shoulder. That is not cool.
You can see the frustration on Wang's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Jello's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Jello wants to control but Wang is keeping him busy.

Wang is working to get back to half guard.

Wang sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Wang wants to get back to full guard.
Jello wants to pass to mount but Wang is defending the position.
Jello perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Jello prevents Wang from improving his position.
Still in half guard, Jello seems content to control.
Wang is looking for a sweep. Jello is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jello is looking to take a break and control but Wang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wang is doing well to control the position and prevent Jello from advancing to side control.
Wang is trying to get back to full guard.
Wang wants to control but Jello passes into side.

Jello takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Wang wants to hold on but Jello pushes him away.
Jello wants to take Wang's back but he can't do it this time.
Jello manages to capitalize on a mistake by Wang to take his back! Score +3 for taking back: Jello (17) vs (2) Wang
Wang looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Wang tries to escape the position.

Jello tries to keep control of the position but Wang is staying busy.
You can see the frustration on Wang's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jello controlling the position well here. Wang rolled but Jello kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.
Wang tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
And that's the end of the fight!
Jello takes the fight on points by 17 to 2.
Our winner, Moldy Jello, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
Long Wang was interviewed post fight and said 'No worries. Everyone here knows my opponent has a bad habit of testing positive for PEDs, so I'm sure this fight will soon be ruled a 'No Contest' by the Athletic Commission.'. |
