PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ike James (ranked 2235 p4p, 2270 weight class) and Chie Satonaka (ranked 290 p4p, 292 weight class). Satonaka has chosen Rayden as his entrance music. Chie Satonaka will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ike James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chie Satonaka!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Eddie Farnsworth and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Satonaka stuffs the takedown.
James shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Satonaka but Satonaka pushes him off and we're back to square one.
James tries for a takedown but Satonaka circles away easily
letting Satonaka counter with a right hand.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ike James. That's going to take a lot out of him.
James takes a shot right to the bread basket.
James darts in looking for a takedown but Satonaka gets double underhooks and turns James into the cage.

James has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Satonaka clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

James patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

James is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Satonaka tries to escape but James has the hooks in and won't let him break free.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

James is looking for the choke from the back position but Satonaka is controlling his hands well.
Satonaka is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get James off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Satonaka turns into James and is now in his guard.
James manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Satonaka manages to get himself to full guard.

Satonaka can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as James controls the pace.

Satonaka keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.
James is stalling in the full guard.

Satonaka is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
James slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Satonaka pulls James in close to prevent any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Satonaka tries to land a sweep but no joy.

James wants to control from the top but Satonaka keeps moving.

James stays in close to Satonaka's body and controls the position.
James sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Satonaka's guard.
Satonaka is trying to stand.
James tries to pass to full mount but Satonaka defends it.
Satonaka moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Satonaka is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
James is looking to advance position but Satonaka has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Satonaka prevents James from getting the reversal.
James is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at CHECMATE PRIME MMA , so we'll see if he gets out of it.
Satonaka tries to control but James wriggling away.
James is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Satonaka wants to control the pace but James is squirming around nicely.

James tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Satonaka has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of James's face.

James bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
James passes easily into side control. Nice work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Satonaka tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but James wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ike James will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Satonaka misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from James.
James fails with the takedown.
James shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Satonaka pinned against the cage. Satonaka gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Satonaka lands a glancing blow to the side of James's head.
Ike James seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
James uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Satonaka.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
A big right from Satonaka misses.
Satonaka tries to bum rush James with a series of wild strikes but James uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
James takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

James shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than James was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Satonaka is not content to let James control the position.
Satonaka is looking for a sweep.
Satonaka regains half guard there - taking advantage of James's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
James is thwarting Satonaka's attempts to control the position.
Satonaka tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
James is trying to control. Satonaka wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Satonaka moves into full guard.

Satonaka escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. James gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Satonaka working for a triangle but James defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James forces his way into half guard.

Satonaka is defending against the submission attempts here by James.

James is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Satonaka doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time James.

Satonaka trying to control but James postures up.
Satonaka might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control James haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

James is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Satonaka sees it coming and defends easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Satonaka is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
James stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Satonaka swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Satonaka is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. James is aware though and is defending well.
James looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
James tries to free his leg and advance position but Satonaka is retaining full guard.

James drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Satonaka manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now James has Satonaka in his guard.

Satonaka trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Chie Satonaka showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

James with a lazy takedown attempt

James closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
James is keen to just control but Satonaka is a slippery customer.
Satonaka wants to control but James is keeping busy.
James works his way into full mount!
Satonaka manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Satonaka tries to roll over but James keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Satonaka is not content to let James control the position.
James passes to side control.
Satonaka is looking to regain half guard here but James keeps moving and retains side control.

James is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Satonaka looks calm but he's in trouble here. James gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Satonaka is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! James lets go of the hold and Satonaka can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:46 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ike James!
A very excited looking Ike James made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
