PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ed Bridger (ranked 1394 p4p, 2093 weight class) and Kloockz Diesel (ranked 138 p4p, 200 weight class). Kloockz Diesel told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ed Bridger! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kloockz Diesel! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Anni Minnemäki and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Diesel looks to throw the jab but Bridger is out of range. Diesel missing with a left hand there. Bridger was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Diesel throws a shot from downtown. Bridger moves away and avoids it. Diesel blocks a head kick by Bridger.
Diesel misses with a double jab.
Diesel throws a right and a left that both miss. Bridger tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Diesel manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. A telegraphed right hand from Diesel misses the target. Diesel throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bridger. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bridger lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Bridger pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Diesel throws a nice looking combination but Bridger bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. It looked like Bridger wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Bridger connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Diesel's hands.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diesel swings widly with a right hand
and Bridger counters with a body kick that stops Diesel in his tracks momentarily. Bridger tries to clinch there but Diesel circles away.
Diesel takes one on the button. Diesel's jab looks to have found its range, popping Bridger under the eye. Bridger jabbing away but nothing is landing. Bridger digs a good body shot into Diesel's ribs. Bridger thumps Diesel with a low kick. Diesel connects with a jab. A telegraphed right hand from Diesel misses the target. Diesel throws a lazy uppercut
and Bridger counters with a nice kick to the body. A combination from Diesel does no damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diesel swings widly with a right hand
and Bridger counters with a straight punch to the midsection. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bridger keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Diesel jabs Bridger to the body, keeping him at a distance. Bridger gets in close and instigates a clinch. Bridger has a couple of punches blocked by Diesel.
Diesel wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
A short uppercut from Bridger. Diesel avoiding damage as Bridger throws knees to the body.
Diesel is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Bridger throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Diesels head. Diesel is looking to break free of the clinch but Bridger has double underhooks. Bridger cracks Diesel with a nice body shot. Bridger pushes Diesel back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Bridger has Diesel pressed against the cage, preventing Diesel from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Diesel lands with a short shot to the head. Bridger throws a head punch that misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diesel manages to break the clinch.
Diesel misses with a jab to the body
and Bridger connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Bridger throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Diesel swings for the body but Bridger moves out of range.
Diesel thows a left - swing and a miss! Diesel is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent. Diesel scores with a crisp jab that stopped Bridger in his tracks. Diesel throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Bridger sees it coming and avoids it easily. Diesel throws a jab but it's blocked by Bridger. Bridger lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. A punch combination from Diesel misses. Diesel misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Bridger.
Diesel on the wrong end of a nice jab. Bridger goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Diesel throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Bridger counters with a flying knee that drops Diesel! Bridger dives in and finishes the fight with a flurry of strikes from the mount!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:10 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ed Bridger! Ed Bridger retains his featherweight title! A very excited looking Ed Bridger made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
