PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Petrus Nekongo (ranked 4319 p4p, 4317 weight class) and Jai Patel (ranked 133 p4p, 135 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Petrus Nekongo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jai Patel!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling each other endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Nekongo swings widly with a right hand
and Patel counters with a nice leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nekongo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Patel takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Patel steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Nekongo.
Patel follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Patel turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Nekongo lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Nekongo checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Patel thumps Nekongo with a low kick.
Nekongo throws an off balance right hand
and Patel counters with a nice low kick that buckles Nekongo's knee momentarily.
Patel goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
An inside leg kick lands from Patel.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jai Patel dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Nekongo waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Patel.
Patel raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Nekongo avoids a kick to the body.
Nekongo swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Patel moves out of range as Nekongo strikes.
Patel shapes to counter with a head kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nekongo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Patel moves away.
Nekongo backing away here, and Patel unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Nekongo moves out of range of the leg kick from Patel.
A counter left hand to the body from Nekongo misses its target.
Petrus Nekongo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Patel will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Patel scores with a kick to the midsection.
Patel keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Patel was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Nekongo throws a hook to the side of Patel's head but Patel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Nekongo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Patel manages to avoid it.
Nekongo misses with an uppercut
and Patel counters with a slapping leg kick.
A head kick misses from Patel.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A slow jab from Nekongo misses its intended target.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Jai Patel will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Nekongo scores with a punch to the head.
Patel misses with a body kick.
Patel swings away with a leg kick that misses.
This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Nekongo might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Nekongo, as that shot connected.
Nekongo throws a hook to the side of Patel's head but Patel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Patel shapes to counter with a head kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nekongo misses with an uppercut. Patel saw that one coming.
Patel misses with a low kick.
A little feinted left hand from Nekongo on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Patel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
An attempted straight right counter from Nekongo misses the target.
Nekongo on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Patel avoids the body shot from Nekongo.
Nekongo moves out of the way of the counter high kick fromPatel.
Nekongo takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Nekongo fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Patel manages to avoid it.
Patel tries a quick counter leg kick but Nekongo is wise to it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
A nice inside leg kick there by Patel. That's going to slow Nekongo down.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Petrus Nekongo.
Well Patel has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
