PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kwok Guo (ranked 24102 p4p, 24165 weight class) and Henry Callwell (ranked 517 p4p, 507 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kwok Guo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Henry Callwell!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Callwell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Guo swivels and escapes.
Guo attempts a counter takedown but Callwell avoids it well and moves away.
Callwell fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Callwell shoots in for a takedown but Guo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kwok Guo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Henry Callwell.
Guo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Callwell defends well and Guo ends up having to push Callwell into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Guo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Guo throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Callwell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Guo is in Callwell's guard.
Guo stands and throws Callwell's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Callwell is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've been told by Guo's head coaches at Cozad MMA Las Vegas that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Callwell enables Guo to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Callwell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Guo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Callwell is keeping the position for now.
Guo wants to stand but Callwell has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Callwell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Guo is controlling him.

Guo postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Callwell tries for a takedown but Guo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Guo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Callwell is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Callwell lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Guo or not.
Guo is working for takedown but Callwell is calmly controlling the position for now.

Guo tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Callwell just stands there and leans against the cage.

Callwell gets underhooks to prevent Guo's takedown attempt.
Callwell looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Callwell tries to pull guard but Guo holds him up against the cage and eventually Callwell drops back down to his feet.

Guo throws a looping overhand right but Callwell ducks down to avoid it.

Callwell shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Guo defends it nicely.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Callwell shoots in for a double leg but Guo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Guo stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Guo wants it to stay on the feet.

so Guo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Guo has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Guo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Callwell for as long as he can get away with.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Horrible takedown attempt by Callwell or perhaps it was just good defense by Guo, which made it look bad.
Guo is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Callwell.

Guo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Callwell sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guo somewhat.
Callwell changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Guo tries to avoid it but Callwell manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Guo to the ground. Guo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Callwell shoots in looking for a takedown but Guo manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Callwell's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Callwell looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Guo is fending him off so far but Callwell persists. Nope, Guo circles away and we're back to standing.

Guo is looking for a counter combo.
Callwell shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Guo pinned against the cage. Guo gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Guo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Callwell's guard.
Guo is standing up over Callwell. Callwell looks to escape but Guo dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guo moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Henry Callwell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Callwell dodges the ground and pound from Guo.

Kwok Guo showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Guo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
