Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve Marshal (ranked 4542 p4p, 24779 weight class) and Jacky Chan (ranked 493 p4p, 557 weight class). Steve Marshal could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jacky Chan's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Marshal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jacky Chan!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Paul Gruel and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Chan. No joy for Marshal on that attempt.
Chan changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Chan shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Chan showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chan slows the pace down in half guard.

Chan seems to be working for a kimura but Marshal defends the submission attempt.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Chan lands a nice short elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marshal is looking for a sweep. Chan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Marshal knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chan on the ground.
Chan takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Marshal wants to get back to full guard.

Chan wants to pass to mount but Marshal is defending the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Chan connects with a nice short shot to Marshal's temple.

Marshal on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Marshal tries to get out of the position.
Marshal keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Chan throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Marshal keeps control of the position for the meantime.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Chan tries to keep at a distance but Marshal has taken the fight into the clinch.
Chan tries to circle away but Marshal has him pinned against the cage.

Marshal displaying some good clinch control by pressing Chan up against the cage.
Marshal is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Chan is defending well.
Marshal prevents a takedown attempt there.

Marshal pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Marshal forces Chan back against the cage and clinches.
Marshal wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Chan jumps guard but Marshal turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Chan should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Chan is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Marshal pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Steve Marshal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacky Chan.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Marshal drags the fight down to the ground.

Marshal is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Marshal wants to improve his position but instead Chan has moved into half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jacky Chan will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Marshal rushes Chan and presses him up against the cage.
Marshal is trying to drag Chan to the mat but Chan just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Chan avoiding damage as Marshal throws knees to the body.
Chan is trying to pull guard but Marshal turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Chan tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Marshal breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Marshal closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Chan's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Marshal wants to get up but he can't break Chan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Marshal is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Marshal with a flurry of punches that miss.
Chan is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Chan tries to strike from the bottom.
Marshal has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Marshal engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Chan is working an open guard so Marshal takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Chan fails to land the takedown.
Chan is breathing heavily.
Chan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
No luck for Marshal with that takedown attempt.
Chan doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Marshal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chan blocks a head kick by Marshal.
Chan is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

Marshal closes the distance and clinches.
Marshal is looking to take this one to the mat.
Marshal can't get the takedown.
Marshal has Chan pressed against the cage, preventing Chan from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Marshal manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Marshal has control of Chan's left arm, preventing Chan from doing any damage.
Marshal is looking to sweep but instead, Chan has passed into half guard.

Steve Marshal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Chan is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Marshal defends it well.
Marshal tries to roll over but Chan keeps him under control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Marshal keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Marshal dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Marshal stuffs the takedown attempt from Chan. Chan gets slowly back to his feet.
A punch lands to the side of Chan 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Marshal throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Nice takedown defense from Marshal. No joy for Chan on that attempt.
Marshal looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Marshal lands a big right hook! Chan looks hurt but is still standing! Marshal lands a left jab and another right hook! This time Chan falls down and Marshal dives in with a huge hammer fist! Chan's eyes roll back! The referee calls for the bell and Marshal runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Steve Marshal!
