The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Seu Braga and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps ruas's head backwards.
It looks like alberto ruas has been cut.
ruas bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
ruas tries to clinch there but Smith circles away.
Smith misses with a hook.
Smith throws an overhand right that lands on ruas's shoulder, as ruas tries to avoid the shot.
ruas shoots in looking for a takedown. Smith tries to sprawl out of it but ruas keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Smith manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
A telegraphed right hand from Smith misses the target.
A slow jab from Smith misses its intended target.
ruas doesn't manage to clinch there - Smith circles away.
ruas blocks a jab.
ruas fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Stoney Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
ruas shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smith as he jumps to the side.
Stoney Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of alberto ruas.
ruas leaves his chin hanging out and Smith seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! ruas crumbles to the floor in a heap, and the referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!
