Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 19 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Sanderlei Bitetti! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 45 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mariusz Pudzianowski! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pudzianowski throws a solid leg kick but Bitetti takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Pudzianowski. Pudzianowski on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Bitetti checks a leg kick. Pudzianowski moves out of range of the strikes. Bitetti checks a leg kick nicely. Bitetti lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Bitetti checks a leg kick. Pudzianowski slips under a jab. Pudzianowski takes a shot right to the bread basket. Pudzianowski tries a low kick but Bitetti avoids it. Pudzianowski shoots in looking for a takedown. Bitetti tries to sprawl out of it but Pudzianowski keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bitetti manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Pudzianowski throws a leg kick but Bitetti moved away. Bitetti has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Silverback MMA in the buildup to the fight. Bitetti scores with a jab to the body. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Pudzianowski throws a low kick but Bitetti avoids it. A quick step to the side and Bitetti tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Bitetti catches Pudzianowski with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Bitetti darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Pudzianowski tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. It looked like Bitetti wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Pudzianowski pivots, looking for a leg kick but Bitetti is out of range and Pudzianowski settles back down. Pudzianowski throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. A big left from Bitetti misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bitetti instigates a clinch. Pudzianowski told us before the fight that he's been working on his elbows. An under utilised technique these days - let's see if it can sway the outcome of the fight. Bitetti lands with a right to the head. A shot in the inside from Bitetti. Pudzianowski tries to land knees in the clinch but Bitetti avoids the damage to the body. Pudzianowski is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage. Bitetti lands with a good tight uppercut to the head. Bitetti lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Bitetti gets through Pudzianowski's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Pudzianowski ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pudzianowski no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Bitetti controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Bitetti advances position into side control! Bitetti happy to just control the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bitetti is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pudzianowski is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Bitetti has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Bitetti works to advance to full mount. Pudzianowski defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Bitetti content just to control the position here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bitetti has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Pudzianowski is forced to tap!
