Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Garret Ring (ranked 4226 p4p, 24783 weight class) and James Cortes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Garret Ring! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, James Cortes! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cortes tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ring was well out of range. Poor timing from Cortes. Cortes tries for a takedown but Ring sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Cortes misses with a head kick.
It looked like Ring was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Cortes. Cortes fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ring tries to clinch but Cortes is having none of it. Ring tries to clinch but Cortes is having none of it. Cortes clinches. Cortes goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ring prevents it.
Garret Ring has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Cortes. Cortes scores with a shoulder strike.
It looks like Garret Ring has been cut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cortes can't find room to land a body shot as Ring controls the action.

Ring jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cortes walks away with a smile on his face. Ring gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Cortes shoots in and drives through. Ring sprawls well. Ring doesn't manage to clinch there - Cortes circles away.
Cortes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Ring tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Ring tries to clinch up. Cortes steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Ring. Nice takedown defense from Cortes. No joy for Ring on that attempt. Cortes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ring is fending him off so far but Cortes persists. Nope, Ring circles away and we're back to standing. Ring shoots in looking for a takedown. Cortes tries to sprawl out of it but Ring keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Cortes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ring tries to clinch but Cortes moves out of range. Ring lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Cortes backs up against the cage.
Ring fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Cortes manages to avoid it. Ring jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Cortes gets a clinch. Ring blocks an elbow strike from Cortes.
This has been an exciting period of action! Cortes digs a right hand into Ring's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Ring's gas tank. Cortes leaning his opponent against the cage. Ring missing with knees to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ring is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Ring lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Cortes backwards. Cortes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Ring tries to close the distance and clinch but Cortes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Ring looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cortes is fending him off so far but Ring persists. Nope, Cortes circles away and we're back to standing. Ring is breathing heavily. Ring shoots and misses and Cortes counters with a right hand to the body. Cortes shoots in for a double leg but Ring sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. No luck for Cortes with that takedown attempt. Cortes fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ring avoids it really well and circles away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ring fails with an attempt to clinch.
Cortes moves into the clinch successfully.
Cortes is pushing Ring up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Cortes misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Ring.
Cortes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cortes darts in and clinches Ring up against the cage. Cortes pulls guard. Cortes keeping full guard, as Ring tries to pass. Cortes is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
James Cortes dominated that round. The cut man is working on Garret Ring's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Cortes pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Cortes shoots in looking for a takedown but Ring manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cortes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. A nice combination there by Ring.

A left and a right from Ring both land. Nice combination. Ring shoots in but no luck this time. Cortes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Ring, pushing him back against the cage. Cortes breaks the clinch.
Cortes shoots in looking for a takedown but Ring manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Cortes's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Garret Ring is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Cortes closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ring circles away. Garret Ring has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of James Cortes. Ring doesn't manage to clinch there - Cortes circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round. Cortes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ring tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cortes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Ring is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Ring lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Cortes at a distance.
Ring fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ring lands with a nice body punch. Ring tries to clinch up. Ring takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Cortes clinches up with Ring and pushes him back against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cortes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Cortes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Cortes striking off his back but it's not causing Ring any problems. Cortes working a defensive guard here.
Cortes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ring can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Ring postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cortes striking off his back but it's not causing Ring any problems. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Cortes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Cortes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ring tries to break the clinch but Cortes is controlling the position. Cortes wants a takedown.
Ring has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Cortes prevents Ring from breaking the clinch. Cortes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ring pulls him back up using the underhooks. Cortes jumps guard but Ring stands there with Cortes around his waist. Cortes gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Cortes's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Cortes swats away the attempt to clinch by Ring. Ring displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Cortes. Ring tries to clinch but Cortes moves out of range. Cortes fails in his attempt to clinch. Ring was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Ring throws a leg kick but Cortes checks it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Cortes stuffs the takedown. Cortes drives through with a takedown into guard. Ring is looking to stand back up but Cortes counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Ring. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Garret Ring will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Garret Ring's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards. Ring thuds a left hand into Cortes's body. Ring will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Cortes slaps away a takedown attempt from Ring, before circling back to the center of the mat. Cortes throws a counter combo. Ring shoots for a double leg takedown but Cortes sprawls well. He's pushed Ring's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Garret Ring. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cortes swats away the attempt to clinch by Ring. Cortes dives in and grabs Ring's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ring pushes down on Cortes's head and hops out. Ring swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Ring tries to clinch but Cortes moves out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ring is looking to wear down Cortes with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. Some bone on bone action there as Ring checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Ring feinted with a counter takedown. Ring tries to clinch but Cortes moves out of range. Cortes raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick. Cortes gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Ring wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. Ring has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee is keeping an eye on Cortes - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Cortes pulls guard. Cortes keeping moving, preventing Ring from controlling successfully. Ring throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Cortes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ring's guard. Cortes passes into half guard under a barage of strikes. Ring works his way to full guard. Good work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ring looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cortes is one step ahead there. Cortes slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Cortes passes Ring's left leg - he's now in half guard. Cortes is looking to advance position but Ring won't allow it. Cortes wants to take a breather but Ring is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Cortes prevents Ring from improving his position. Cortes is figuring out what he wants to do next. Cortes throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Cortes seems to be looking for submissions.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Ring is trying to get back to full guard.
And that's the end of the fight! James Cortes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Cortes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
