PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tezzy Luke (ranked 5381 p4p, 4064 weight class) and Ming Quan (ranked 0 p4p, 480 weight class). Quan has chosen Flash - Queen as his entrance music. Ming Quan is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tezzy Luke! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ming Quan! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Luke circles away from the clinch attempt.
Quan tries to clinch up. Luke lands a head kick!
Luke tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Quan tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away. Luke keeps the fight on the outside. Quan swings for the body but Luke moves out of range.
Luke slips a jab from Quan. Quan fails in his attempt to clinch. Quan tries to clinch up. Luke dips to his left and cracks Quan with an uppercut! Luke avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Quan misses with a wild body shot. Luke throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quan looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Luke is fending him off so far but Quan persists. Nope, Luke circles away and we're back to standing. Luke shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Quan as he jumps to the side. Quan wants to counter with a clinch but Luke pushes him away. Luke will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Luke misses with a series of wild punches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Luke misses with a head kick.
Luke fails with the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tezzy Luke. That's going to take a lot out of him. Luke is breathing heavily. Quan drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Quan lands a couple of decent looking shots. Quan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Luke works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Quan won't allow Luke to sweep him here. Quan slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Quan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Luke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Quan working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quan throws a strike but Luke rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Luke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Quan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Luke has managed to get both his arms back between Quan's legs - danger averted. Quan looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Quan has a closed guard, preventing Luke from standing up. Quan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Luke defends well. Quan looking for a sweep. Not yet Quan, not yet. Quan has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Luke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Luke got a little sloppy there for a moment and Quan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Luke has managed to get both his arms back between Quan's legs - danger averted. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Luke avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Quan pulls Luke in to control the position. Quan has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Luke has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Quan wants to get back to striking at distance but Luke won't allow it.
Quan blocks an elbow strike from Luke.
Luke is trying to pull guard but Quan has him pressed against the cage. Quan misses with a hook from the clinch. Luke wants to stall.
Quan goes for a takedown in the clinch but Luke prevents it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Quan tries to score a body lock takedown but Luke shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Luke is trying to break the clinch but Quan has him pressed against the cage. Quan misses with a punch on the inside.
Luke is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Quan taking a breather. Quan is pressed up against the cage. Luke has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Quan down to the mat. Quan avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Quan. Luke looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Quan shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Quan was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Luke is looking to regain half guard here but Quan keeps moving and retains side control. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Quan happy to just control the position for now. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ming Quan will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Quan avoids the head kick by Luke.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Quan. Luke sneaks out the side door and pushes Quan away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Tezzy Luke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Luke shoots in for a takedown but Quan shows good takedown defense. Quan wants to clinch. Quan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Quan. Luke seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Quan tries to close the distance and clinch but Luke swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Quan takes a jab right on the kisser.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The fight stays on the outside here - Luke looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Quan darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Quan is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard. Quan not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Quan postures up and lands a big shot to Luke's brow. Quan engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Quan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Quan seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Let's hope that Quan has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Quan stands up over Luke, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Quan scoring with some ground and pound.
Luke is rocked! Quan works a leg free and moves into half guard. Oh Luke is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Quan passes to side control. Quan scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Luke is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Quan can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ming Quan!
