PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Randy Randleman (ranked 4 p4p, 36 weight class) and David Choke (ranked 1 p4p, 7 weight class). Randleman comes into the arena with Bloodhound Gang - Bad Touch blaring out of the sound system. Randy Randleman could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to David Choke's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Randy Randleman!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 12 - 1, fighting out of London, David Choke!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Percy O'Donnell and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choke tries to close the distance and clinch but Randleman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A telegraphed right hand from Randleman misses the target.
Randleman has been working on his boxing with his coaches at GWad's Playpen in the buildup to the fight.
Choke steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Randleman.
Randleman misses with a hook. Choke ducked under it nicely.
Choke goes for a double leg but Randleman avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Randleman continues to drive forward.

Choke moves into range and clinches up with Randleman.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Randleman lands a body punch.

Choke jumps guard.
Randleman is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Randleman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Choke on the ground.

Choke has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Randleman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Choke escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Randleman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Choke has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Randleman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Choke is on top in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Choke postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Randleman has Choke pulled in close to control his posture.

Choke postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Randleman is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Choke, into his guard.


Choke is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Randleman is aware though and is defending well.

Randleman avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Choke lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Choke tries to free his leg and advance position but Randleman is retaining full guard.
Choke keeps trying to improve his position.
Choke throws a strike but Randleman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Choke has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Randleman is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Choke.
Choke tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Randleman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Choke manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Choke not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Choke is trying to work for a kimura but Randleman is defending well.

Choke is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Randleman is just riding it out for now. Choke eventually gives up the hold.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

David Choke dominated that round.

Choke fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Randleman throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Choke stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

and Randleman counters with a left to the body.

Choke gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Randleman throws a body punch but Choke moves out of range.

and Choke counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Randleman manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Choke keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Randleman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Choke is trying hard to land a takedown here. Randleman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Randleman is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Choke.

Choke changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Randleman cracks Choke with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Randleman misses with a looping right.
Randy Randleman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Choke shoots in looking for a takedown but Randleman manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Choke's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Randleman jabs Choke to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Choke is breathing heavily.
Randleman throws a shot to the body.

Randleman sends Choke crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Randleman is motioning to the referee to let Choke up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Choke is rocked!

It looks like David Choke has been cut.
Randleman throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Choke sees it coming and avoids it easily.

A nice inside leg kick there by Randleman. That's going to slow Choke down.
Choke shoots in for a takedown but Randleman shows good takedown defense.

Randleman misses the jab.
Choke chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Randleman can pounce on him.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Randleman moves into range and connects with a jab.
Randleman misses with a head kick.
Choke looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Choke takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Choke shoots for a double leg takedown but Randleman sprawls well. He's pushed Choke's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Randleman jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Randleman swings for the body but Choke moves out of range.
Randleman bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Choke keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Choke feints the counter takedown.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Choke closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Choke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Choke looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Randleman is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Choke can do to turn this around?

Choke goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Randleman has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Choke but great work by Randleman.

Choke maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Randleman could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Choke has cracked it and Randleman is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Choke!
