Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rick James (ranked 4272 p4p, 4314 weight class) and John Dee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rick James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Dee!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dee decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Dee is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, James has managed to free his arm - good work.
James moves into full guard.
Dee pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. James is keeping the position for now.

Dee has gone for a leg lock! James slips out almost immediately though and dives into Dee's guard.


James stands up from Dee's guard - James perhaps looking for a knockout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dee is defended easily by James.

Dee closes the distance and clinches up with James, looking for a takedown. Dee pushes James against the cage but James circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Rick James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Dee.

Dee shoots in and bounces James off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

James manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Dee. No joy for James on that attempt.
Dee tries to counter by closing the distance.
James could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dee as he avoids it easily.

James decides to pull guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now James is on top in guard.

James stands up from Dee's guard - James perhaps looking for a knockout.

Dee looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
James is trying to control but can't.

Dee seems to be working for a kimura but James defends the submission attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dee postures up.
James keeping moving, preventing Dee from controlling successfully.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Dee.

James throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

James is pressed up against the cage. Dee has hold of a leg and is looking to drag James down to the mat. James avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
James is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

James drags the fight down to the ground.
Dee tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.

Dee stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

James kicks Dee off and gets to his feet.
Dee shoots in but no luck this time.

Dee looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for James!

Dee is trying to get an arm triangle but James is defending well.
James is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Dee has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Dee wants to stand but James has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard.

Dee working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
James keeping full guard, as Dee tries to pass.
Rick James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
James is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Dee wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position.
Dee postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Rick James dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Dee tries to close the distance and clinch up but James swats him away and circles back towards the center.

James has taken the fight to the clinch.

James bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dee's guard.


James stands up and waves to Dee to follow him.
Rick James is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Dee closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dee goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, James rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Dee's guard! Nice work there by James!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Dee has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but James has passed into side control.
Dee is not content to let James control the position.

James is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dee knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

James decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dee to his feet.
Dee dives in and grabs James's left leg, looking for a takedown. James pushes down on Dee's head and hops out.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

A momentary lapse in concentration from James enables Dee to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. James manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

The fighters are working up against the cage. James manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Dee is trying to work for a single leg takedown but James pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Dee goes for a takedown attempt but James pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rick James has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Dee.
Dee tries to bum rush James with a series of wild strikes but James uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Dee shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts James as he jumps to the side.

James clinches.
James gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Dee.
James is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dee can do to turn this around?
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.

Dee has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by James after a bit of a struggle.
Dee has James pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. James manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Dee defends well against a solid takedown attempt from James.
Dee tries to counter with a clinch but James shakes him off and moves away.

Dee throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. James was covering up waiting for the punch and Dee finishes the takedown easily into guard.
John Dee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Dee distracts James with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Dee wants to stand but James has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Dee looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! James has picked Dee up and slammed him! Dee can't keep hold of the triangle and James manages to pass to side control!

And that's the end of the fight!
Rick James showed his dominance in that final round.
Well James has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
