PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mike Phelps (ranked 3560 p4p, 4191 weight class) and BJ Penncil (ranked 422 p4p, 451 weight class). BJ Penncil told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mike Phelps!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, BJ Penncil!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penncil looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Phelps is fending him off so far but Penncil persists. Nope, Phelps circles away and we're back to standing.
Phelps closes the distance and clinches up with Penncil, looking for a takedown. Phelps pushes Penncil against the cage but Penncil circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Penncil throws a body punch but Phelps moves out of range.
Phelps is looking to clinch.
Phelps tries to score a power double leg takedown but Penncil sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Phelps somewhat.
Penncil shoots and misses
and Phelps counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Phelps gets a clinch.
Phelps tries to break free but Penncil pushes him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Penncil manages to break the clinch.
Penncil shoots in and bounces Phelps off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Penncil postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Penncil content to stall in guard here.
Penncil forces his way into half guard.
Penncil is taking a breather. Phelps says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Penncil looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Penncil looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Phelps taking some punishment here, with Penncil in his half guard.
Phelps wants to get back to full guard.
Penncil takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Phelps is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Phelps wants to control but Penncil is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Well, if Penncil is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Penncil works his foot free and advances to mount.
Penncil looking to control and managing it successfully.
Phelps is in all sorts of trouble here.
Penncil has isolated one of Phelps's arms. Phelps looking to fight him off but Penncil twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
