PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Kenton (ranked 4080 p4p, 4483 weight class) and Regular Joe (ranked 427 p4p, 433 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Charlie Kenton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Regular Joe!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe lands with a nice combination. Kenton backs away looking to recover.
Kenton explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Joe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kenton tries for a takedown but Joe sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Kenton bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kenton trying to control the position but Joe is working away.
Kenton is breathing heavily.
Joe can't do much from the bottom here.

Kenton decides to stand back up. Kenton steps back and let's Joe get back to his feet.

Joe clinches up with Kenton and pushes him back against the cage.
Kenton letting Joe take a breather here.
Joe stalling in the clinch.
Joe receives a warning from the referee for stalling.
Joe blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Kenton pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Joe throws a sloppy head kick and Kenton moves out of range easily.
Joe moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Kenton shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kenton was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Kenton could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kenton avoids the strikes from the bottom by Joe.

Kenton goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Joe has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kenton but great work by Joe.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kenton tries to bench press Joe off him but Joe keeps the position.

Joe is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kenton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Joe is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kenton is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Kenton is trying to improve his position.
Joe is looking to take a break and control but Kenton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Joe grinds an elbow into Kenton's temple.
Kenton holds on to Joe's head and controls the position momentarily.
Kenton is trying to control Joe's posture but Joe avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kenton on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Kenton gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Joe takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Joe lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Kenton is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Kenton sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Regular Joe dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

A low kick from Kenton is predictable there

and Joe counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kenton!

Kenton bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Kenton shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Joe keeps the fight on the outside.
Joe moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Joe manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kenton on his heels. He'll look to pass Kenton's guard now, I'm sure.
Kenton wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Joe manages to pass to side control.


Joe seems to be working for a kimura but Kenton defends the submission attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Joe is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Kenton sees it coming and defends easily.

Kenton is trying to stand.
Joe is looking to advance position but Kenton won't allow it.

Joe is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Kenton wants to improve his position but Joe is controlling well.
Joe drops an elbow to the side of Kenton's head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Joe is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kenton is just riding it out for now. Joe eventually gives up the hold.
Joe is thwarting Kenton's attempts to control the position.
Joe is nestled in close to Kenton, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kenton is trying to control but can't.
Joe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Joe trying to control the pace.
Joe prevents Kenton from standing back up.
Kenton keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Joe tightens his grip and picks Kenton up, before dumping him to the ground. Kenton manages to land in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Joe postures up.

Joe stops Kenton from standing up.
Joe trying to control but Kenton is working from the bottom.
Kenton can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Joe controls the pace.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kenton wants to stand and escape but Joe is having none of it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Regular Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Joe darts in and clinches Kenton up against the cage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Joe.
Kenton misses with a punch to the body.
Joe jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kenton walks away with a smile on his face. Joe gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Joe lands a high kick!
Joe keeps the fight on the outside.
Joe lands a nice leg kick that just misses Kenton's sensitive parts.
Kenton blocks a head kick by Joe.
Kenton tries to close the distance and clinch but Joe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kenton tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Joe paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Joe throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kenton.
Kenton is looking for a counter combo.
Joe tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Kenton shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Joe pinned against the cage. Joe gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Joe throws a big counter head kick but Kenton avoids it with no problem.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Kenton is defended easily by Joe.
Joe throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
A head kick misses from Joe.
Kenton tries to counter with a takedown but Joe is quick to defend against it.
A nice combination there by Joe.
Joe dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Regular Joe seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Joe will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Kenton shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charlie Kenton. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kenton moves in looking to clinch but Joe pushes him off.
Joe throws out a counter right but Kenton avoids it with no problem.
Joe lands with a slapping head kick.
Joe dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Kenton. That did some damage!
Joe wants to clinch.
Joe jabs at Kenton's body.

Joe closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kenton quickly recovers to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kenton is looking to improve his position.
Joe seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kenton does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Joe is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Still in half guard, Joe seems content to control.
Kenton is refusing to be controlled, as Joe sits in half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Joe connects with a nice short shot to Kenton's temple.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Joe is trying to control. Kenton wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Joe trying to advance position but Kenton counters by regaining guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Joe accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Joe postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Joe scoring with some ground and pound.
Joe passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Joe is looking to take a break and control but Kenton is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Charlie Kenton has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Regular Joe is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Regular Joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Joe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
