PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Nick Quick (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Pulver (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Quick comes to the cage accompanied by Indestructible, by Disturbed. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nick Quick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Pulver!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Bruno Lombardi and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pulver circles away from the clinch attempt.
Pulver throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Quick swats away the attempt to clinch by Pulver.

Pulver gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Quick using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Pulver has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Quick pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Quick creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.

Quick pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quick tries to clinch there but Pulver circles away.
Pulver changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Quick tries to avoid it but Pulver manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Quick to the ground. Quick escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Pulver counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Pulver drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Quick manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Pulver has Quick in his guard.
Quick will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Pulver wants to stand and escape but Quick is having none of it.
Quick is pushing down on Pulver's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pulver is fighting to maintain full guard but Quick has managed to sneak the leg through.

Quick really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Pulver won't allow Quick to pass to mount.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Quick is trying to control the action in half guard but Pulver is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Quick is pressing down on Pulver's thigh, looking to free his foot. Pulver is holding on for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Pulver fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nick Quick seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pulver ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Pulver is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Quick misses with an elbow over the top.

It looks like Josh Pulver has been cut.

Quick is pushing Pulver up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Quick seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pulver does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
