PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gerald Myers (ranked 5999 p4p, 24201 weight class) and Denk Ops (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Denk Ops!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Hirohito Nitta.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Myers goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Myers tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Ops shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Myers as he avoids it easily.
It looked like Myers was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Ops.

Myers fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ops to the ground. Myers is now in Ops's guard.
Myers postures up.
Ops is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Myers landing some decent shots from guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Myers trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Myers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ops has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Myers has managed to get both his arms back between Ops's legs - danger averted.
Ops not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Myers is in close to Ops's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Ops lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ops really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Myers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Myers definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Ops is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ops fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ops closes the distance and clinches up with Myers, looking for a takedown. Ops pushes Myers against the cage but Myers circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Gerald Myers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Denk Ops.
Myers will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Horrible takedown attempt by Ops or perhaps it was just good defense by Myers, which made it look bad.
Ops changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Myers tries to avoid it but Ops manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Myers to the ground. Myers escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ops takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

It looks like Denk Ops has been cut.
Myers shoots for a takedown but Ops saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ops fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Ops wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Myers manages to pass to side control.

Ops is trying hard to land a takedown here. Myers sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Ops flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Myers sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Myers has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ops's face.
Ops regains half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ops looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Myers pushes past his half guard into mount!

Myers jumps guard but Ops stands there with Myers around his waist. Myers gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Myers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Myers, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
