PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24562 p4p, 24456 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Kiang shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Kiang content to control rather than advance.
Nada is controlling Kiang's position as best he can from this difficult position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kiang is taking a breather. Nada says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Nada trying to control from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nada tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Kiang sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Nada is concentrating on defense, preventing Kiang from advancing position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nada changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kiang tries to avoid it but Nada manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kiang to the ground. Kiang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Kiang quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Nada shoots in and bounces Kiang off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Kiang pulls Nada in close to prevent any damage.
Nada controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Nada is fighting to break Kiang's control of his arms but Kiang is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kiang trying to keep a closed guard but Nada is proving a slippery customer.
Nada controlling from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Kiang seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kiang throws the kick towards the body but Nada avoids it.
Nada follows through with a counter body kick but it doesn't land.
Kiang shoots and misses
and Nada counters with a series of strikes. Kiang will be more careful next time no doubt.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Way Nada will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Kiang fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nada feints a counter leg kick.

Kiang throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Nada tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kiang is in Nada's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kiang trying to control the position from guard on top but Nada is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nada wants to sweep but no luck.
Nada is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kiang shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nada manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Nada pulls Kiang in close to prevent any damage.
Kiang throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Kiang stopping the sweep attempt from Nada.
Nada has Kiang pulled in close to control his posture.
Kiang is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Kiang is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nada can do to turn this around?
Nada looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
It appears Kiang was looking to counter with a kick there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yawa Kiang dominated that second round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Nada closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kiang keeping control of the position.
Kiang has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nada content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nada shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kiang pinned against the cage. Kiang gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nada changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kiang tries to avoid it but Nada manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kiang to the ground. Kiang escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kiang drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Nada manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Nada's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kiang.
Nada flicks out a counter leg kick but Kiang steps away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kiang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nada as he avoids it easily.
Nada steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Nada shoots in for a takedown but Kiang shows good takedown defense.
Kiang throws a quick counter kick to the body but Nada avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Way Nada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
