PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between King Kong (ranked 5121 p4p, 3354 weight class) and Ramon Castiana (ranked 521 p4p, 437 weight class). King Kong looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, King Kong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ramon Castiana!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kong shoots in and bounces Castiana off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Castiana is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kong defends well.
Castiana managing to control the position.
Kong stopping the sweep attempt from Castiana.
Kong tries to free his leg and advance position but Castiana is retaining full guard.

Kong is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kong drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kong jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Castiana is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kong pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Castiana is keeping the position for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Castiana looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
We've been hearing good reports from Kong's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Kong has gone for a leg lock! Castiana slips out almost immediately though and dives into Kong's guard.

Kong is breathing heavily.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kong has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Castiana is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kong.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kong prevents Castiana from moving into mount.
Kong tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Castiana wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kong really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Castiana scores with a couple of short elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kong is trying to get back to half guard.
Castiana works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

It looks like King Kong has been cut.
Castiana content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Castiana tries for a kimura but Kong is defending well.

Castiana is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Kong has escaped the position, nice work there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Castiana tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Castiana has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kong is trying to get back to half guard.

Castiana is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kong is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kong is trying to improve his position.
Kong seems a little lost for a moment, as Castiana dominates the positioning.

Castiana thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Castiana is working to tighten his grip on Kong's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Kong has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Castiana is really squeezing tight and eventually Kong passes out! Castiana breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ramon Castiana!
