Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darius Hayes (ranked 3879 p4p, 3904 weight class) and Byron Neal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darius Hayes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Byron Neal! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Reed Andrews and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hayes drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Hayes is in close to Neal's body, working some short punches and elbows. Hayes postures up and lands a big shot to Neal's brow. Hayes with a nice head shot there. Hayes cracks Neal with a solid left hand. Hayes is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Hayes scoring with some ground and pound. Hayes stays in close to Neal's body and controls the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Neal is looking to stand up but Hayes isn't so interested in that idea. Neal is looking to stand back up but Hayes counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Neal.

Neal really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hayes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hayes content to control rather than advance. Neal is trying to stand.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Neal shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hayes pinned against the cage. Hayes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Neal pushes Hayes away with a front kick.

Hayes bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Hayes works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Hayes fails with a takedown attempt. Hayes shoots for a double leg takedown but Neal sprawls well. He's pushed Hayes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Hayes avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hayes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Hayes lands a big shot there that rocks Neal but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Hayes won't let Neal get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Hayes pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Hayes controlling his opponent. Hayes has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Darius Hayes. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hayes, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
