PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ranganathan Iyer (ranked 2991 p4p, 1822 weight class) and Jason Voorhees (ranked 390 p4p, 194 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ranganathan Iyer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jason Voorhees!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Voorhees throws a shot from downtown. Iyer moves away and avoids it.
A little feinted left hand from Iyer on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Voorhees fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Voorhees throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Iyer sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Iyer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Voorhees on his heels. He'll look to pass Voorhees's guard now, I'm sure.

Voorhees uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Voorhees's coach down at Hilo Workout Center was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Voorhees's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Iyer takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Voorhees just misses with a punch to the body.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Voorhees throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Iyer stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Good shot there by Voorhees.
A decent looking cross lands there for Voorhees.
Jason Voorhees seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Iyer throws a sloppy head kick and Voorhees moves out of range easily.
Voorhees lands with a nice body punch.
Voorhees misses with an uppercut. Iyer saw that one coming.
We've been told by Iyer's head coaches at Special Ops N7 Training that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Iyer ducks right into an uppercut from Voorhees.
Iyer pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Voorhees is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Iyer.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Iyer shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Voorhees connects with a body shot that sends Iyer's belly button to the back.
BOOM! Voorhees lands a beautiful left hook that drops Iyer. Iyer tries to recover but Voorhees is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Iyer lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jason Voorhees!
