PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ajax Jacker (ranked 2892 p4p, 2689 weight class) and Santino Cabal (ranked 389 p4p, 365 weight class). Santino Cabal told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ajax Jacker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Santino Cabal! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Chad Campbell and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fighters circling - Cabal throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Cabal stuffs the takedown attempt from Jacker. Jacker gets slowly back to his feet. Jacker shoots in looking for a takedown but Cabal manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jacker's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Cabal! But no joy. Jacker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Jacker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Cabal is trying to buck Jacker off. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cabal is trying to improve his position. Cabal is not in a great position here, taking some shots. Jacker cracks Cabal with a big elbow. Jacker lands a decent elbow from side control. Cabal is working to avoid the ground and pound but Jacker connects with a decent elbow. Jacker landing a few strikes. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cabal is not content to let Jacker control the position. Jacker is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cabal knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Jacker landing strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacker scores with a couple of short elbows. Cabal tries to bench press Jacker off him but Jacker keeps the position. Jacker grinds an elbow into Cabal's temple. Cabal is not content to let Jacker control the position. Cabal is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cabal takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Jacker scores with punches from side control. Cabal is trying to control Jacker's posture but Jacker avoids it. Jacker moves into full mount! Jacker is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Cabal has managed to escape the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Cabal throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Cabal is in a horrible position here. Jacker smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Jacker working for a guillotine from mount but Cabal is in no mood to give up. Cabal wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Cabal is trying desperately to improve position. Cabal takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cabal really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Cabal is rocked! Cabal is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Cabal is still in real trouble! Can Jacker finish him? We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Cabal can do anything to dispel that myth. Oooooh, big shot lands for Jacker! Cabal is hurt baaadly! Jacker is firing away with more strikes - Cabal is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
