Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Ruiz (ranked 2565 p4p, 3724 weight class) and Gary Garrison (ranked 319 p4p, 427 weight class). Ruiz comes to the cage accompanied by DB7 - Squid Game Drill. Garrison is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: 300 Violin Orchestra. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Ruiz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Garrison! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Garrison throws a right hand that Ruiz ducks under and follows up with a left that Ruiz also avoids with ease. Garrison looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Garrison tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Ruiz with a jab. Garrison swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Sloppy strikes from Garrison. Those never looked like landing. Ruiz has closed the distance and engaged Garrison in a clinch.
Ruiz lands a nice uppercut. I was talking to Ruiz's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Ruiz lands a knee to the head.
It looks like Gary Garrison has been cut. Ruiz has the Thai plumb, controlling the head nicely. He loads up with a big knee to the head and Garrison goes down! Ruiz pounces into side control - this one could be over soon!
Garrison is rocked! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Garrison is being controlled here. Garrison is still in real trouble! Can Ruiz finish him? Ruiz advances to mount. Ruiz is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Garrison can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Ruiz jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Garrison manages to avoid the submission attempt. Garrison seems to have recovered his senses. Ruiz works to advance to full mount. Garrison defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruiz wants to finish this one by submission but Garrison is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ruiz. Ruiz looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Ruiz has hold of Garrison's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Garrison manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Ruiz can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Garrison is looking to escape. Garrison really wants to buck Ruiz off and get back to his feet. Ruiz is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Garrison has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Ruiz is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Garrison to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Garrison shrugs it off. Ruiz wants to control the pace but Garrison is squirming around nicely. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Anthony Ruiz dominated that round. The cut man is working on Gary Garrison's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Ruiz cracks Garrison with a right hand to the side of the head. Ruiz goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Garrison takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Ruiz moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Ruiz's corner calls for a 1-2. Ruiz obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Ruiz swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Garrison counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. We've been informed that Garrison has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight. Ruiz connects with a crisp jab. Ruiz rushes Garrison and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ruiz connects with a massive knee from the clinch and Garrison goes down! Ruiz jumps into full mount looking to finish!
Ruiz is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Garrison has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Garrison! Garrison stands up and waves to Ruiz to follow him. Garrison misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ruiz is working to tighten his grip on Garrison's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Garrison has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Ruiz is really squeezing tight and eventually Garrison passes out! Ruiz breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
