PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Lee (ranked 4258 p4p, 4020 weight class) and John Studd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lee's entrance music is Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, John Studd!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Lee throws a quick inside leg kick.
Lee tries to clinch but Studd is having none of it.
Studd dives in for a single leg takedown but Lee sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Lee appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Lee jabs at Studd's body.
Lee shoots for a double leg takedown but Studd sprawls well. He's pushed Lee's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Lee stuffs the takedown attempt from Studd. Studd gets slowly back to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Studd is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Lee can't fight it off and eventually Studd manages to take the fight to the floor. Lee looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Studd slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Lee is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Studd successfully pulls guard.
Studd keeping moving, preventing Lee from controlling successfully.
Studd has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Lee has passed into side control.

Lee throws an elbow but Studd slips to the side and avoids it well.

Studd is looking to get back to full guard here but Lee has managed to pass to side control instead.

Lee misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Studd managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Lee.
Lee tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Studd tries to bench press Lee off him but Lee keeps the position.
Lee creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Studd sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Lee throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Lee is looking to take a break and control but Studd is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Studd wants to control but Lee postures up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

and Studd holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Lee will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lee leaves Studd with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
John Studd is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Lee lands a right hand that snaps the head of Studd backwards.
Studd is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Lee to keep the fight standing.
Lee pushes Studd back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Studd is looking for a takedown.

Lee's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Studd fails with the takedown
and Lee counters with a stiff right hand.
Studd moves forwards but Lee connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Studd is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Lee is defending well.
Lee tries to stall but Studd uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Lee gets through Studd's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Lee is trying to stall.
Lee is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Lee is pressed up against the cage. Studd has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Lee down to the mat. Lee avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

and Lee connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Studd avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Lee tries to clinch but Studd moves out of range.

Lee clinches up with Studd and pushes him back against the cage.
Lee lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Lee lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Lee makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Lee prevents Studd from breaking the clinch.
Lee is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Lee throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Studds head.
Lee connects with a knee to the head.

Studd is rocked!

It looks like John Studd has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Studd misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Studd is still on wobbly legs! Can Lee finish him?
Studd wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Studd seems to have recovered his senses.
A short left from Lee.
Lee is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Studd can do to turn this around?
Studd drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lee drops Studd onto one knee with a big uppercut from the clinch! Studd is propped up by the cage and works his way back to his feet!
Lee lands a huge punch on the inside that knocks Studd senseless! Wow, what a way to end the fight!
