PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between William Stubbs (ranked 4259 p4p, 3560 weight class) and Khamzat Chimaev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stubbs comes to the cage accompanied by Jawbreaker - Machine Gun Kelly. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chimaev tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Stubbs defends well and Chimaev ends up having to push Stubbs into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Stubbs tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Chimaev paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Stubbs slaps away a takedown attempt from Chimaev, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Chimaev misses with a leg kick.

Chimaev feints and as Stubbs raises his hands in defense, Chimaev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stubbs is trying to keep Chimaev in close.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stubbs wants to sweep here but Chimaev controlling him for the moment.

Stubbs is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Chimaev presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

William Stubbs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Khamzat Chimaev.

Chimaev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Chimaev shoots in for a double leg but Stubbs sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Stubbs closes the distance and clinches up with Chimaev, looking for a takedown. Stubbs pushes Chimaev against the cage but Chimaev circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Stubbs misses with a double jab.
Chimaev darts in looking for a takedown but Stubbs gets double underhooks and turns Chimaev into the cage.
Chimaev fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Stubbs shoots in looking for a takedown but Chimaev manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Stubbs's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Chimaev shapes to counter with a head kick.
Khamzat Chimaev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stubbs tries to clinch up but Chimaev circles away and keeps his distance.
Chimaev gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Stubbs throws a series of punches but Chimaev avoids them all with ease.
Chimaev displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stubbs.
Stubbs ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Chimaev moves away.
Stubbs slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Stubbs throws a jab when Chimaev was well out of range.
Stubbs misses with an uppercut. Chimaev saw that one coming.
Chimaev takes a body punch but keeps moving.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sloppy strikes from Stubbs. Those never looked like landing.
Stubbs pounces like a tiger and cracks Chimaev with a vicious hook! Chimaev is down but not out! Stubbs follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
