In the red corner, competing out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 1 losses; Aniruddha Anand! Let's get this grappling contest under way! Who will be victorious? Walker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Anand closes the distance and clinches.
Anand has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Walker regains guard immediately. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Anand (2) vs (0) Walker We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Walker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Walker seems keen to control Anand's posture. Anand might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Anand is sitting in close to Walker's body. Walker has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Anand is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Anand is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Walker.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Lance Walker! |
