PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nakagome Kakuzo (ranked 2336 p4p, 23787 weight class) and Monty Sioux (ranked 297 p4p, 582 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nakagome Kakuzo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Monty Sioux!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Jorge Garcia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sioux keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kakuzo misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Sioux is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Sioux throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sioux misses with an uppercut. Kakuzo saw that one coming.
Kakuzo is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Kakuzo shoots and misses
and Sioux counters with a stiff right hand.
Sioux takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Sioux throws a lazy right hand but Kakuzo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sioux lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kakuzo clinches.
Sioux can't find room to land a body shot as Kakuzo controls the action.
Kakuzo taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Sioux is pressed up against the ropes. Kakuzo has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sioux down to the mat. Sioux avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sioux has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Sioux is looking to clinch.
Kakuzo catches Sioux with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Kakuzo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Sioux is trying to defend but Kakuzo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sioux is trying to stand back up but Kakuzo is controlling him

Kakuzo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sioux is trying to stand up here but Kakuzo is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kakuzo winds up and cracks Sioux with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Kakuzo is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Kakuzo connects with a nice short shot to Sioux's temple.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Sioux is trying to stand.
Sioux really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kakuzo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kakuzo takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Kakuzo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Kakuzo is looking for a kimura but Sioux is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kakuzo to get the leverage.
Kakuzo winds up and cracks Sioux with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Sioux wants to get back to his feet.

Kakuzo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Kakuzo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Kakuzo is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Sioux is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Nakagome Kakuzo!
