Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, CJ Hallinan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, George Washington! The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Yukihiro Shimada and Taro Takaoka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Washington scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Washington wants to stand but Hallinan is controlling his arm. Washington content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Washington in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. You can see the frustration on Hallinan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Washington tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hallinan is looking for a sweep. Washington looking to control but instead Hallinan has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Hallinan gets back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Washington is looking to advance position but Hallinan has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Washington really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hallinan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Washington tries to lock up and control but Hallinan gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Washington can do anything to dispel that myth. Washington is wriggling around trying to escape.
Washington defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Hallinan. Hallinan trying to control but Washington is having none of it. Washington is trying desperately to improve position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hallinan has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Washington is forced to tap!
