PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 24341 p4p, 24233 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Yawa Kiang has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Yawa Kiang seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 18 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Nada.
Kiang jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
No luck for Kiang with that takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nada changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kiang looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang is not content to let Nada control the position.
Nada taking a breather here.
Kiang can't do much from the bottom here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kiang is holding Nada down, trying to stall.
A lull in the action here as Nada stalls from top position.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kiang is trying to control Nada's posture but Nada avoids it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Kiang fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nada sprawls well initially but Kiang persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Nada wants to control the action here but instead Kiang manages to pass to full mount!
Kiang trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Nada wants to control but Kiang is having none of it.

Nada might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kiang haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Kiang dives in and scores a takedown into Nada's guard.
Nada is pulling down on Kiang's head to control his posture.

and Nada finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Nada tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kiang swivels and escapes.

Nada shoots for a double leg takedown but Kiang sprawls well. He's pushed Nada's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kiang swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.
Nada looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.

Kiang looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Nada is trying to maintain the position but Kiang is very close to passing his half guard.
Kiang is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Nada is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kiang's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kiang's back!

That was a close second round but I would say that Yawa Kiang will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Kiang shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Nada defends it nicely.
Nada steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

Horrible takedown attempt by Nada or perhaps it was just good defense by Kiang, which made it look bad.
Kiang quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Nada shoots in but Kiang avoids the takedown attempt easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Nada tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Kiang is looking to counter with a body kick.
Kiang stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kiang wants it to stay on the feet.
Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown. Nada tries to sprawl out of it but Kiang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nada manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nada unleashes a big counter combination but Kiang bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Kiang shoots in and drives through. Nada sprawls well.
And Nada responds with a good body kick, but Kiang manages to step out the way in time.
Kiang shoots in looking for a takedown but Nada manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Kiang's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nada tries a quick counter leg kick but Kiang is wise to it.
Kiang misses with a takedown attempt
and Nada counters with a nice body kick.
Nada shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kiang defends it nicely.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Way Nada has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Yawa Kiang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kiang.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Yawa Kiang.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kiang, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
