The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Christmas shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Christmas (2) vs (0) Solo Solo is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Solo looking for a sweep. Not yet Solo, not yet. Christmas seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Christmas preventing the sweep. Solo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Christmas will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Christmas slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Solo wants to hit a sweep here but Christmas passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Solo there! That's one minute gone in the round. Christmas content just to control the position here. Solo is trying desperately to improve position. Solo is still trying to improve position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Solo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Christmas fails to take his opponent's back. Christmas trying to control but Solo is having none of it. Christmas tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Christmas's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Solo is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Christmas takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Solo tries to lock up and control but Christmas gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Solo tries to improve his position but Christmas has taken his back! Christmas has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Solo tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Christmas pushes Solo away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!
