The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Mendes closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Waterman's guard.

Mendes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Waterman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mendes has managed to get both his arms back between Waterman's legs - danger averted.
Mendes won't allow Waterman to sweep him here.

Waterman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mendes defends it easily.
