Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Backman (ranked 2837 p4p, 3322 weight class) and Veigar Kujawski (ranked 344 p4p, 399 weight class). Mickey Backman has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mickey Backman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Veigar Kujawski! The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Backman defending well as Kujawski loads up on a big left hand. Backman appears to be looking for a counter takedown. Backman ducks under a wild hook from Kujawski. Kujawski fails with the takedown. Kujawski waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Backman. Kujawski shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Backman pinned against the cage. Backman gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Kujawski scores with a jab to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kujawski's corner calls for a 1-2. Kujawski obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Kujawski pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Backman. Kujawski takes a swing at Backman's ribcage but misses. Backman changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit. A combination from Kujawski does no damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kujawski's corner calls for a 1-2. Kujawski obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Kujawski connects with a body shot that sends Backman's belly button to the back. Backman on the wrong end of a nice jab. Kujawski bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Backman's head backwards. Backman throws a low kick but Kujawski avoids it. Kujawski blocks a head kick by Backman.
Kujawski misses with a shot to the body and Backman counters with a single leg into guard. Kujawski didn't expect that. Kujawski has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Backman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Kujawski is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Backman defends well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Backman looking to pass the guard. Backman has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Backman wants to control from the top but Kujawski keeps moving. Backman throws an elbow that misses. Kujawski uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Backman's guard. Nice move by Kujawski! Backman tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kujawski tries to free his leg and advance position but Backman is retaining full guard. Backman tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kujawski is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kujawski sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Backman's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Backman controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kujawski is looking to take a break and control but Backman is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Kujawski seems to be working for a kimura but Backman defends the submission attempt. Backman gets full guard. Backman looking for a sweep. Not yet Backman, not yet. Kujawski looking to pass the guard. Backman tries to land a sweep but no joy. Kujawski trying to move into half guard but instead Backman has managed to sweep!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kujawski looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Backman is in close to Kujawski's body, working some short punches and elbows. Kujawski had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Backman defends it easily. Backman slips nicely into half guard. Kujawski is looking for a sweep. Backman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Backman wants to pass to mount but Kujawski is defending the position. Kujawski slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Kujawski is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Backman passes easily into side control. Nice work. Backman is looking to take a break and control but Kujawski is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Veigar Kujawski dominated that round. That's time! Backman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. No joy there for Kujawski, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kujawski smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Kujawski misses with a wild body shot. Kujawski scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Kujawski is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
