This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 4 losses; Billy Danner!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and John Roberts.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Danner rushes Gomes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Danner tightens his grip and picks Gomes up, before dumping him to the ground. Gomes manages to land in guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Gomes (0) vs (2) Danner
Danner wants to pass the guard but Gomes is keeping the position.
Danner is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Danner tries to free his leg and advance position but Gomes is retaining full guard.
Danner controls from within his opponent's guard.
My spies in The Forge inform me that Danner has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Gomes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Danner doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Danner manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Danner has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Danner drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Danner jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gomes working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Danner looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Gomes! Submission of the night perhaps?
