PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Takashi Minoko (ranked 25129 p4p, 24840 weight class) and Mike Duffy (ranked 628 p4p, 619 weight class). Mike Duffy will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takashi Minoko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike Duffy!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Minoko tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Duffy swivels and escapes.
Duffy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Minoko throws out the jab.

Minoko decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Duffy wants to stand back up but Minoko manages to pass into side control.

Minoko working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Duffy is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Minoko is putting a hurting on Duffy here, landing some big shots from side control.
Minoko tries to move into full mount but can't pass Duffy's legs.
Minoko scoring with punches and elbows.
Duffy takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Minoko trying to control the action but Duffy is working from the bottom.
Duffy looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Minoko grinds an elbow into Duffy's temple.
Minoko cracks Duffy with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Minoko lands an elbow.
Minoko works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Duffy is trying to buck Minoko off.
Duffy is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Duffy takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Minoko is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Duffy has escaped the position, nice work there.
Minoko lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Minoko looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Duffy wants to get back to his feet but Minoko drags him back down.

Duffy explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Minoko ducks under a wild hook from Duffy.
Minoko has a takedown stuffed.
Minoko throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Minoko throws a right and a left that Duffy avoids nicely.
Mike Duffy is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Duffy is looking to clinch but Minoko is avoiding it.
Minoko shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Duffy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Takashi Minoko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Minoko moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

It looks like Takashi Minoko has been cut.
Minoko scores with a sloppy right hand. Duffy should have avoided that one.
Minoko fails to land the takedown.
Duffy swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Minoko ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Duffy misses with a looping left.
Minoko is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Duffy.
Minoko fails with a takedown attempt.
Minoko takes a body punch but keeps moving.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Duffy stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Duffy wants it to stay on the feet.
Minoko sets himself, and Duffy steps forward looking for the clinch! Minoko avoids it this time.
Minoko is breathing heavily.
Minoko dives in for a single leg takedown but Duffy sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Minoko jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Duffy walks away with a smile on his face. Minoko gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Minoko circles away from the clinch attempt.
It looked like Minoko wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Minoko has a takedown stuffed.
Duffy is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
No joy there for Duffy, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
As Duffy tries to get set, Minoko tries to push him back and clinch up but Duffy manages to avoid the attempt.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Duffy lands a left and a right that send Minoko crashing to the mat, dazed. Duffy thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Minoko is rocked!
Duffy steps in with a hook that catches Minoko right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Duffy follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Minoko looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Duffy!
