In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 19 wins and 17 losses; Marc Read! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 27 wins and 32 losses; Pavel Savkov!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.

Read closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Savkov's guard.

Read seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Read seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Savkov for as long as he can get away with.
Savkov has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Rivers Edge Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Savkov can't keep his opponent in guard - Read advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Read has control of Savkov's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Savkov regains control of the situation pretty easily.
We've been hearing good reports from Read's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Savkov is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Read is aware though and is defending well.

Savkov isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Read stacks Savkov on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Read!

Read tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Read has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Savkov is the more experienced fighter here and he's going to need to draw on some of that experience if he's going to pull this one out the bag.

Savkov is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Read is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
