PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kaven May Jr (ranked 2833 p4p, 3400 weight class) and Grigori Golov (ranked 333 p4p, 370 weight class). May Jr comes to the cage accompanied by HonestKey- Self Discovery. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaven May Jr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Grigori Golov!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
May Jr misses with a body punch

and Golov counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

May Jr is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Golov looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

May Jr has his foot on Golov's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Golov works his way back into a safe position though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Golov has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

May Jr looking for subs off his back but Golov has passed one foot through into half guard.
May Jr moves into full guard.
Golov controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

May Jr looking to control but Golov passes into half guard.
Golov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

May Jr gets caught napping as Golov dives in and scores a takedown. May Jr manages to retain guard.

May Jr looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Golov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Golov tries to free his leg and advance position but May Jr is retaining full guard.

May Jr had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Golov defends it easily.
May Jr wants to control the position but Golov says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Golov perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

May Jr throws a head kick but Golov moves out of range.

Golov shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Golov looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
May Jr is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Golov scores with a couple of nice shots.

May Jr wants to get back to full guard.
May Jr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Golov content to stall in guard here.
May Jr is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Golov is working May Jr over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Golov slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Golov shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Golov showed some decent athleticism there.

May Jr moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
May Jr working a defensive guard but Golov manages to pass into side control anyway.
Golov lands a nice forearm strike.
Golov moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Golov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

May Jr is looking for a sweep.

Grigori Golov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

May Jr throws a lazy head kick

and Golov counters with a nice double leg into side control. May Jr won't be happy with that.
Golov lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear May Jr down.
Golov scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at May Jr to see if he's OK.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

May Jr tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Golov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Golov connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused May Jr some visible discomfort.
May Jr seems a little lost for a moment, as Golov dominates the positioning.

Golov lands a nice forearm strike.
Golov remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Golov in particular looking to stall.
Kaven May Jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
