PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Svalbard Haudegen (ranked 1835 p4p, 1506 weight class) and Magnus Larsen (ranked 238 p4p, 205 weight class). Haudegen comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Magnus Larsen enters the cage!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Haudegen checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Haudegen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Larsen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Haudegen throws the left hand but Larsen avoids the punch easily.
Larsen throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Sloppy strikes from Larsen. Those never looked like landing.
Haudegen looks to score with a jab to the body but Larsen is just out of range.
Haudegen chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Larsen can pounce on him.
Larsen just misses with a punch to the body.
Haudegen tries to close the distance and clinch but Larsen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Larsen loads up on a big right hand but Haudegen slips the punch.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Larsen, as that shot connected.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

It looked like Haudegen wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

We've been hearing reports that Haudegen has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Haudegen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Larsen defends it easily.

Haudegen is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Larsen is aware though and is defending well.

Haudegen is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Haudegen is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Larsen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Haudegen.

Haudegen is working for a kimura here but Larsen manages to reverse the position and he's now in Haudegen's guard.

Haudegen takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Haudegen bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A head kick from Larsen lands but Haudegen takes it in his stride.

Haudegen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Haudegen passes to full mount!

This has been an exciting period of action!

Haudegen has hold of Larsen's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Larsen manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Haudegen has control of Larsen's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Larsen regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Haudegen jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Larsen manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Haudegen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Larsen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Haudegen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Larsen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Haudegen has hold of Larsen's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Larsen tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Haudegen cranks the arm and Larsen screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Larsen, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
