PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hamish McKay (ranked 4190 p4p, 5021 weight class) and Punch Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hamish McKay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Punch Power!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McKay closes the distance and clinches.

McKay jumps into guard, dragging Power to the mat.
Power trying to control but McKay is working from the bottom.
McKay controlling Power's posture.
Power preventing the sweep.
Power is fighting to break McKay's control of his arms but McKay is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
McKay is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Power being controlled here momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Power won't allow McKay to sweep him here.
McKay bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Power's guard.

Power has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but McKay has passed into side control.
Power is trying to control McKay's posture but McKay avoids it.

McKay's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Power wants to control but McKay postures up.
Power being controlled for a moment.
Power is looking to regain half guard here but McKay keeps moving and retains side control.
McKay remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

McKay has managed to clinch.
McKay is trying to pull guard but Power has him pressed against the cage.

McKay decides to pull guard.
McKay manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Power manages to get himself to full guard.

McKay controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
McKay has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

McKay forces his way into half guard.
McKay not doing much here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McKay passes the guard and advances to mount!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! McKay's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

McKay stuffs the takedown.

McKay forces Power back against the cage and clinches.
McKay fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Power manages to break the clinch.
McKay tries to close the distance and clinch up but Power swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice uppercut there from Power.

McKay moves into the clinch.

McKay pulls guard.
McKay looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
McKay pulls Power in to control the position.
McKay wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McKay pulls Power in close to prevent any damage.
Hamish McKay overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

McKay is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Power can do to turn this around?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Power tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McKay paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
McKay doesn't manage to clinch there - Power circles away.

McKay clinches with his opponent.
A frustrated look appears on Power's face as he tries to break the clinch.
McKay tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Power just stands there and leans against the cage.

McKay decides to pull guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Power is fighting to break McKay's control of his arms but McKay is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
McKay continues to stall.
Power is looking to stand up but McKay won't let him.
Power throws an elbow that misses. McKay uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Power's guard. Nice move by McKay!

McKay seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Further stalling from McKay.
Power is looking to sweep but instead, McKay has passed into half guard.
Power wants to get back to full guard but McKay has mounted him!
McKay looking to control and managing it successfully.
Power tries to hold on but McKay pushes him away.
Power is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McKay tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Hamish McKay dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

McKay wants to clinch.
Power moves in looking to clinch but McKay pushes him off.

McKay gets caught napping as Power dives in and scores a takedown. McKay manages to retain guard.
Power trying to control the position from guard on top but McKay is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Power is looking to advance position but McKay has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Power takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
McKay controlling from mount.

Hamish McKay is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Power regains half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hamish McKay showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for McKay, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
